I went through the same thing with my after this latest move. I lost a few nice colonies, and I was not happy with the tank, now I have a virtual SPS garden and everything is growing so fast! Funny though, I still want to tinker and change things around....

Mike, keep your gosh darn () hands out of that tank. I would have to come up there and slap the daylites out of you!

Re: My tank is starting to look better, I think

LOL! Thanks Charlie.

Actually my plans for the tank are all in the basement. I want to replace my return pump, and tweak the plumbing around a bit. I am thinking of a sequence return pump, and putting the skimmer on its own pump. I want to try and reduce my power draw, that Iwaki is a great pump, but at 360W it also costs a fortune to run.

Which Sequence are you looking at Mike? Are you going to redo what your returns look like?

Maybe a dart Charlie, I am going to run either 2 or 3 outlets in my tank from it, and I think I will use a Bluline or Iwaki 55 to drive the skimmer. I want more flow through the sump, in order to keep the temp of the tank, and the sump in the basement more consistant.

Don't forget that the Dart has a 2" input on it. Don't know if that would have an effect on you but just a heads up!!

Re: My tank is starting to look better, I think

I have a 2" bulkhead on my sump..... Just in case!

I also looked at the 4300, and running everything off that... I guess I am rather undecided at the moment.

Re: My tank is starting to look better, I think

It is my thought that you would be better off having 2 separate pumps. Don't you think it would be a little easier for maintenance?

Re: My tank is starting to look better, I think

I don't know, I like having the one pump now. 2 pumps means 2 bulkheads in the sump, and more valves, unions, and such. The downside is 1 pump makes the skimmer harder to adjust. Actually if I didn't have the penductor on my return then the current set up would not work at all. My new plans call for 3 outputs of lower velocity, but more volume. As I type this all out, it seems the Dart and 55 would be the best option....

Gene, sorry for taking your thread so far OT.

Re: Tinkering with my tank plumbing

Another good thing about 2 pumps is having a good reliable backup. Just in case. If your return pump goes down, you could move your skimmer pump to your return temporarily until your main return pump is fixed/replaced.

That is very true Scott, for some reason I really like the simplicity of 1 pump though. It keeps my plumbing simple too....
