Hydor KORALIA for water movement is reef tank

Anybody use these in their tank? I got several for the last 4 months and really like them. They are really in expensive in comparison to some of the good PH for in tank use. They also have magnetic mount so placement is not a problem at all. Great water movement for reef tank.

    Hi Minh,
I got one about a week ago too. At first I got a Tunze nanostream because I had a dead spot in my tank and when I was about to put it in the tank I noticed the front half of the casing wouldn't stay on the the motor half, then I did some searching and noticed those little pumps have a lot of problems so I returned it and got a coralia 4, so far so good and it;s very powerful for the price, I'm impressed!

I have been considering them recently for so additional water flow in our reef.

I love the way they attach, it's a suction cup on the inside and an exterior magnet on the outside plus it delivers more flow than the nanostream 6045 for almost 1/2 the price!
Geez someone should be paying for this plug!

    Louise,

This pumps too had their problems in the beginning, like stray voltage...
From what I understand the problems had been solved and that all of the new pumps are safe to use.
I use Tunze's nano stream in my tank for about a year now and had no issues with it, however, I'm thinking of switching to the Koralia myself. Tunze's require such frequent cleanings to perform well and I am tired of cleaning one powerhead every week.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

I have my Koralia (three #1 and one #2 running for 4 months continuous now without problem. Have anybody use them with a wave maker?

Re: Hydor KORALIA for water movement is reef tank

Hey Minh, I'm thinking of getting 2 #1's to replace my 2 Maxi-jet 1200's in my 55 gal. tank. My question is, is the power cord and motor on the outside of the tank, using a magnetic force to turn the propeller?

Question #2 my MJ 1200's put out 295 gph. these Koralia #1's put out 400 gph. I know the more water movement, the better, but could this be too much in a 55 gal tank? is the flow ajustable?

I use a wave maker with my MJ 1200's, can you use a wave maker with these Koralia's ? I know Tunze says not to with their pumps.

    James,
The Koralia have cord and motor inside the tank. Very low Watt consumption (essentially no heat transfer) with open propeller that move lots of water but does not put out a fast jet of water. It look reasonable inside a tank. The magnetic mount of this PH also have a suction cup . Placement is very secure and it can go any where in the tank . I have not have this PH move a fraction of an cm from where I place it. IMO, it will never fall off of the wall where I mount it. It is relatively inexpensive.

My only worry now is how reliable it is and weather I can put it on a wave maker and not have it stop function quickly.

Koralia is working in their own wavemaker and they say it will be out by the end of the year.

    Carlos_fb,

Thanks for the input on the wavemaker for this p-heads, it seems that everyone is wondering if it could be done or not.
    Kind regards,

Re: Hydor KORALIA for water movement is reef tank

What I am wondering is why these companies are coming out with new PH's and then have to make their own wavemaker to run them?

I have 2 Seio 1500's and I had to wait and now I have to buy their own wavemaker to get what I want from them. Then to top it off, their wavemaker does not slow them down independently. They both slow down together and then come back up to speed together. I would think one would want them to do this separately to get the wave action. This kept me from buying their wavemaker.

Now with Hydor coming out with the latest hot PH, everyone has to wait for "their" wavemaker to come out. Hopefully it will be better than the Seio one.

One can get a Red Sea Wavemaker pretty cheap, but it will not run these newest PH's without breaking them. So we are basically stuck with the high price of a wavemaker specifically made for that companies PH.

Wonder how hard it would be to take a Red Sea wavemaker or just a simple power strip wavemaker and mod them to power down to a set point and then power up again? Hmmmmm.....
