It is a deepwater fish that enjoys and absolutely needs a cooler water set up with dim lighting. The ones that have come in recently have suffered from swim bladder issue's from what the few people who have gotten them have said.

Went to my local coral shop today and the owner had one of these in his tank! It was an amazing looking fish! He said it was very rare but didn't have much more info, he said he didn't know much about him either but he gets along well with his other anthias. Does anyone know more about this fish? His tanks are absolutely gorgeous by the way. He's the only place I go to that gives you good advice.

I guess he's been lucky so far, he's had it for a month without a problem, next time I go I'll take a pic of the tank with the fish in it.

How far is this place from Ottawa? I will be up there this weekend and if close enough would like to see it.
Carl
I'm not sure of the milage but here's a link to his website:
Aquarium Le Corail
I would think from Ottawa it's a 2 hour drive...

Sorry I never got an e-mail saying you replied. For what ever reason the security on my work computor won't allow me to view the site. I'll have to check it when I get home tonight.
I have no plans on buying the fish but always like to visit whatever stores I can find when I'm traveling.
Carl
I forgot to mention, it's not for sale![]()
It's in his display tank, very nice tank IMO![]()

It doesn't look like to bad of a drive from Ottawa. Not to far off the 417.
I wasn't planning on spending the whole weekend up there but maybe I'll head out there Sunday morning.

Hello,
This is a fish that needs to be kept by an experienced hobbyist. It can be kept up to 78F and with halides but must be provided rocky overhangs or caves. It can take 6-12 months to swim out in the bright light. If kept with other Anthias is should be introduced at the same time or first. They can be difficult to get feeding. Frozen Mysis shrimp is a good food to try as a first food. They are a deeper water fish 100-300 feet that often suffers from swim bladder problems because of the sudden rise to the surface. They come from cooler water (62-68F) if collected from the Japanese islands. The ones from the South Pacific are found in slightly shallower and warmer water.

A pic would be great.
I have to go back up in like two weeks so maybe I can fit it in then.

Went to my coral shop today to drop off Cheech Mandarin and I remembered to bring my camera.
I got a picture of his famous anthias, he's more beautiful every time I see it.
I also got a picture of Mr.Ed swimming happily in his new 180 gallon home,
and I took a pic of his display tank that has the anthias in it.
I was looking at the pic of the anthias that I originally posted from some other website and the colors don't look the same. Is this the same kind of anthias?

Its a beauty! Same fish just taking on adult coloration.
That Pseudanthias fasciata in the bottom right hand corner of the third pic looks nice. Another not so easy to keep species. They are usually pretty aggessive and from deeper water.
Carl
Wow!!!
Mr. Ed looks happy!!!!!!!!!!! Nice pics![]()

Just an update on the spotted anthias, he's still doing great! The tank has changed somewhat (different corals) but he still has the same fish in it. By the way he told me when he got it, it only cost him $120 compared to the $300 +++ I've been seeing on the net...
Mybe next time I go I'll take another pic of the tank,![]()
