Latex would be fine, I have also used spray paint, like Krylon. It sounds like your tank is already running, so I would use something that you can brush on, but make sure you cover the tank, and use LOTS and LOTS of carbon if you decide to paint it. (Fumes can dissolve into the tank water.)
I used 3 coats of latex enamel that I rolled on with a mini-roller.
Just last week, thinking that I didn't like the color (too bright blue), I decided to repaint it. It turned out to be remarkably easy to get the old paint off. I just worked a corner loose with a putty knife and was able to peel the whole thing off it one giant sheet. There is enough adhesion that the paint doesn't peel when you look at it, but it comes off easily. It is now repainted a really dark blue, which I think sets off the corals much more nicely and will be better for photography. My tank is bare-bottom, but I didn't bother repainting the bottom, since much of it is covered with rock, corals, and coralline anyway.
