Ta-DAAAAA! I'm finally getting started!

So the tank finally arrived last night! So far I just wiped it out
strangely it looks so much bigger than my 75g, amazing what an extra 15 g will do...
Plans for today is painting my background and work on some of the plumbing, keep you posted

Re: Ta-DAAAAA! I'm finally getting started!

I'm sure you know the go slow with the setup. It took me some time to setup my 125g so I could add the contents of two other tanks to it. it took almost a year just to acquire everything I needed to set it up.

Lot's of folks need to learn patience when setting up salt systems. The main thing is planning for long term. I still make small changes here and there on mine, but nothing major that would cause a disruption in my system.

Put up pics of your progress to keep us updated, plus so others can learn from them.

Re: Ta-DAAAAA! I'm finally getting started!

I'm lucky to already have everything I need to set up so it won't take as long, and I already have all the extra (cured) rock I'll need for the upgrade. Now it's just the slow but steady set up process...

Re: Ta-DAAAAA! I'm finally getting started!

Looks good, Louise. Good luck on your project!

Was this tank custom made or it;s just a standard 90? I haven't seen them with center overflow hence the question.

Re: Ta-DAAAAA! I'm finally getting started!

I think it's a standard 90 but I asked for the overflow in the middle with the hole off center so I could fit the durso, that's why it took a month to arrive.

Well, I guess that will make it a custom tank...

Cool! At least now I can say that

So I worked on this pretty much the whole day including a few trips to the LFS for parts, check valve, ball joint, elbows, the usual stuff, got the durso installed, checked to make sure the bulkhead didn't leak and painted the back. I just finished the 4th coat so you'll notice it's still wet in the pic.
here's a couple of really exciting pics....NOT!

I hate to tell you this, but I have watched paint dry before around here on slow days.

Re: Ta-DAAAAA! I'm finally getting started!

A quick question, what are the benefits of re-using some of the old water?

Re: Ta-DAAAAA! I'm finally getting started!

It looks like you have a 90 degree elbow right there at the bulkhead for the drain. You should consider using a couple of 45's instead, or a hose bard and flexible tubing as it will have less back pressure and not be as restricting on the drain. The only impact to the 90 is capacity but you should try to get as much capacity as possible.

Re: Ta-DAAAAA! I'm finally getting started!

Hi Scott,
Yup you're right about the elbow, I was going to but I'm already going to be getting way more flow than I originally did even with the restriction. My return pump only handles about 500gph.

Re: Ta-DAAAAA! I'm finally getting started!

Would you ever think of replacing that return pump?

Sorry, didn't see this at all.

I think it would help with the acclimation of your critters. The transfer would almost be lke a large water change. JMHO

If you think you might ever go for a larger return you might consider changing this 90 out now.
