Algie Pack - Help

About a week ago I added 12 hermit crabs, 6 margarita snails and 6 astrea snails to my newly set up 210 gallon tank. The live rock has been curing for about 8 weeks and amonia and nitrite levels are at 0 and nitrate is at 20 or so. Over last two days two of the margarita snails and two of the asortia snials have died. The crabs seem to be triving however, any ideas why the snails might be dying?

Thanks,

Re: Algie Pack - Help

Snails are very sensitive to changes in salinity and require a slow acclimation (drip method preferred). My guess is this is the problem.

PH is 8. Salinity is 1.023. Over what period of time whould you do the drip? What snails would you recommend? I was told in the pet store I got them at that there was no need for the drip but rather to just put them in right away. I guess that is not correct.

Re: Algie Pack - Help

2 hours of drip acclimation would be best.

Here is a good article for you:

I like the Turbo's, Trochus and Astraea.
