Do you have grounding probes in the system?

HLLE (head and lateral line erosion) is a condition thought to be caused by nutritional deficiencies. It indicates a lack of appropriate diet. It commonly affects surgeonfish and angels but damsels and other fish are also susceptible.

Several hobbyists have reported good results feeding broccoli to tangs with HLLE. Freeze the broccoli first to break down the fibers or blanch it in boiling water for about 30 seconds first, one or the other. You could also pre-soak the food in several drops of Selcon (a vitamin supplement) for about 15 minutes before feeding it.

Good nutrition can reverse HLLE.

Steven Pro has written an article on HLLE that discusses some of the other theorized possible causes and various remedies. And, at the bottom of his article, Steven links to a three-part article on HLLE writen by Terry B.

Re: Hole in Head?

No grounding probe. I am beginning to think it may just be a physical injury (from a scratch on the rock).
