the coral no one wanted :(

I know I've posted this on another forum already, but I've missed you guys and I don't really have anything else to post about...

So, my LFS just gave me this big, beautiful tongue coral for FREE. The young man there insisted that it was doomed... completely unsalvagable... because it had a little brown jelly infection. I think someone needs to introduce this kid to a Dremel saw. lol

I added some picks of the skeleton to show how I IDed it with Veron's book. (it was an easy one though).

Good score Sara. That is not a very common coral around here, I had one given to me from a LFS too, but mine was in far worse shape, it died....

Good luck with yours, they are pretty cool when open!

    Hi Sara,

Keep an eye on the exposed parts of the skeleton for algae attacks, it may be a good idea to seal it somehow.

I have one question and it's about the operation itself. What made you cut the coral in the shape you did it? I was just thinking about simplisity of a straight cut and minimizing the area that would be exposed to algae and other intruders.

PS> I had one of this corals years ago when my 75 was a softie and LPS tank. It did beautifully and actually grew about an inch length. I lost most of the images from that time, unfortunately.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

I thought about that but didn't know what to use. Are you thinking super glue would work? I have a little fish that eats just about any hair or brush algae, but I don't know if he'll be enough.

To be honest, I didn't give it a whole lot of thought. I had class in an hour and I just cut out all the parts that looked disease. I suppose it might have been better to just cut it in 3s, but oh well. Maybe I'll have to cut it again later.

Cool! I'll be happy if this one just recovers!

Yeah, I can see that in Charlie's pic. I actualyl didn't know anything at all about the coral when they gave it to me. At first I thought it was just an elongated Fungia or something. It's pretty different though.

Charlie - Dude! Yours looks better than the ones pictured in Veron's book! DO you think you could let your wife come over here and feed mine too?!

LOL-- how old is your son?

Gene- are you coming to MACNA? If so, are you bringing any of that great scotch you brought to IMAC last year? This stuff I've been drinking tonight is just painful...

AJ is 18 and in boot camp. It's family weekend. Says all he wants to do is eat, I may gain about 10 lbs. that weekend.

Hi Sara. I saw this on RF, and thought I'd post here instead.

I think you'll give it a nice home. Any updates?

    Best,
