He is also considerably skinnier than the female (very skinny!) Has good coloration, and is active. this is the same one that I posted about having a "bony head" I posted this ? several days ago here and on RC, and got no answers at all! please help! I will include a Pic as soon as I can find a camera...

This may sound a little crazy but I read a posting about a month ago that was almost what you're describing. Except, this person had a Tang. Turns out that the guy used a bubber band to tie seaweed to the magnetic scraper to feed his Tang. The Tang ate the rubber band as well and it hung out of his crack for a day or so but finally passed through his fish. Now, I'm not sure what you've had in or near your tank in the past week or so, but, I'm pretty sure that your fish got a hold of something and just flat out ate it. He'll be fine. It's probably something that will just take some time to push through his system. Another thing, try not to stare at your fish too much. If you do, you're bound to find SOMETHING wrong with him. The same goes for us when we stare in the mirror. You start to notice things that have been there for 20 plus years but because you feel somethings wrong, you notice them right away. Be patient my friend. I've learned this lesson well.

i read that post too, it is indeed similar. but the fishes health seems to be effected by it! He has had this for over a week! I posted on many message boards, and these are the first replies that I have gotten. His dorsal fins are kept low to his body, while the female is happy as could be! Theres no way that i could intervene?

He could be constipated from some type of food. I believe it's happened to my clownfish. I wish I could help you more. These kind of maladies are so often difficult to deal with. I might suggest a good fish disease book with pictures to see if anything matches. If I can find anything when I get home, I'll repost.

I found this on a webpage... it might help and it might not. It's a pretty good site with some helpful info. I'll leave the link at the end of the post. Here's what it said on this subject:

Constipation- This is often caused by a diet without enough variety, or by feeding too many starchy type foods. Symptoms: If your fish is having trouble passing feces, or if they are forever trailing behind a fish, your fish may be suffering from constipation. Treatment: Feeding your fish a diet with more roughage and a greater variety sometimes helps! Feed live foods such as (wax worms, brine shrimp, tubiflex worms, etc.) peas, spinach. If you can get your fish to eat one grain of Epson salt it can also help aid with the constipation. Soaking dry fish food in some water taken from the tank will soften the food and help in the digestion process.

    Good luck!

they dont eat it, unless it has been soaked in a cup of water for 5 or so minutes.

It must be making progess, because this morning it was a short, thick mass in the animals anus, now it is very long and very very very thin..
