    Good idea?

    About three months ago I put a Tupperware container full of Southdown in my daughters 30gal reef tank. I set it on the bottom with a large mushroom rock on it. About 6 weeks ago, my daughters tank became the refugium on my new 120g reef. It has TONS of life in it. Today I took that container and put it in the main 120gal reef the refugium is connected to. I'm hoping this will provide a good seed for the 5in SD sand bed.

    I also placed this container and another one back into the refugium to do it again.;;

    What do you think, was it a good idea?

    If it was full of life, then it was and is a very good idea. Now that the tank and refugium is seeded, I'm curious as to why continue? Just to provide a continuous flow of seeding sand?

    I'm continuing because this fall I will be buying a house. When I move, I will be moving my 92gal corner tank and 120gal reef into either a 180 or 300. My plan is to buy the tank and have it setup and seeded a few weeks before I move the tanks. I'm in a townhouse now and will be able to take my time moving.

    Yeah it sounds like a plan then. I understood your oringinal reasoning, just couldn't figure out a reason to continue the flow.......unless of course you plan on another new tank. As far as that goes, you could take a few cups from your display and refugium to seed the new tank when you reach that point.
