My 125g reef in the making

Well I was gonna build this tank into the wall...but after I found out what all was involved into it I opted not to. So I am still using the back room behind the tank as an equipment room and did cut a large hole out for plumbing purposes. Heres the start of my project

The tank, is an All-Glass mega flow purchased through Sea Dreams Wichita Kansas, it was only $240

The stand, made by yours truly I made it 32" tall so I could fit a good size sump/skimmer in there if need be in the future, but for now both are on the opposing wall (holes in wall)

My sump, compliments of tractor supply co. Was only 50bux and its 110g

Heres some pics of the overflow, and how it works

Gonna start plumbing today, so standby for more pics....Also planning on ordering some pukani rock soon too.

Nice so far. What size tank is that? I'm building a 210G and it looks similar to mine and I paid $750 for it which I think is retail so either way you got a REALLY GOOD DEAL! Actually I think I paid $250 for my 90G a couple years back.

Both of those categories sound good to me My plan is to have 3 HQI lights the two outside will be 150w 10k and the middle one is gonna either be a 250w HQI or 400w HQI probably 20k (im leaning more toward the 250w) and will probably throw in some moon lights too. Im thinking the center section will have an island of some sort with SPS and the two ends may be primarily for softies or LPS.

Rocky if it doesn't I still have that other one.
My grandpa did some work on it and got it running but it hasn't been started up in a few years. If you need it let me know.

    Thanx Gene,
Yeah it feels good! very liberating.

    Orion,
Nothin compared to your 270g and you just reminded me of how much patience this hobby takes by the length of time you had tied up into the rock walls on your tank....MAN im so sorry you had to go through that!

Re: My 125g reef in the making

Those are some awesome looking pieces of LR, Rocky.
For some reason I always been partial to the Fiji rock. I know it may be not as light, or porous as some of the other brands but I love the shapes and colors of Fiji rock.
Probably the OFR syndrome but I'm sticking with my opinion...
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Re: My 125g reef in the making

It's always those little unforseen snags and back and fourth trips to the hardware store for cheap stuff that takes the most time. I'm glad you've decided to get wet again Rocky. The last time I heard from you you seemed a little burnt out.

Re: My 125g reef in the making

Heres the RO/DI unit I got today...it appears wichita city water (where I am at anyway) has 326 TDS...and after my new unit its 0 TDS I had to get me one of those inline TDS meters! I also got some backup sediment and carbon block filters as well as a bag of DI resin to refill when needed. The unit is a 100gpd and it came with a 3g pressure tank and water tap too. So It will give me good drinking water and good reef tank water

Didnt make alot of headway on plumbing today...my main concern was to get some good water mixed up for circulation for the LR...I have been misting it with a spray bottle since I received it

CHANGE of Plans on lighting 250HQI instead of 150!
2 - 250w HQI ballast ....gonna try and do something like lumenarcs for the reflectors though...probably gonna do some moonlights and maybe some actinics in the center panel of the tank and the 2 HQIs will be on the end panels...im thinking of making two islands of rock on both ends of the tanks and that will be where the majority of my corals will be...that way they will be somewhat seperated and wont need the lighting as much in the center.....Dunno...subject to change too though....thoughts? the bulbs are old...ordered 2 new XM 10k DE bulbs though...on the way now.

Yeah I was pretty impressed with the fiji, they where not able to fill the order I wanted with the pukani so he took care of me with the rest being fiji and even hand picked it for me. I do wish the pukani had a bit more color to it but hey I got some good rock for the price...need more anyway....gonna try some from kevin too hopefully

Only probs im experiencing is that I broke one of my durso stand pipes today putting them together. There is a lip on the reducer that has to be dremelled/sanded off and I didnt quite sand it enough and broke the part where you see I cut the openings in the pipe while trying to slide the reducer on. So a small delay and another trip to HD....inevitable...we all know this

Re: My 125g reef in the making

The Pukani will color up good for you, just give it a little time. You'll have it in there with the figi rock, so something is bound to happen there. Geez, your tap water is worse than mine, (~280).
I can't wait to get started on my rebuild, you guys are driving me nuts!!!!!!!
