    Unhappy star polyp trouble

Hey you guys i have a green starburst polyp, and it doesnt open up as it used to. When I looked closer, I saw two suspects to the problem. One of them is a tiny brittle star that has made itself home in a hole next to my starburst. another is a mysterios white spoungy looking thing that is growing on the actual purple mat whaere the polyps protrude from. Please help me because i really dont want to lose this coral. it costed alot of money and it gives my reef tank a lot of diversity. (without it I will only have two frog spawns and 7 mushrooms! im planning on getting more corals though)

    Re: star polyp trouble

    Hi Reefs rule
Its kind of hard to say what it is w/out a good picture of the suspected problems as well as the coral. First off the coral dubbed "green starburst polyp" is a generic label in most ppls eyes, its kind of like saying I have a brown/white dog thats small what breed is it? So we either need a good clear picture of the coral or the scientific name of the species of the coral would help. I wouldnt be too worried about the mini starfish too much. The "mysterios white spoungy thing" though could be a mold that sometimes attacks zooanthids. I would definately not put any more corals into the tank until you figure out the current problem with this little prize of yours you have in there right now....I know you dont want to risk losing anything else right? Keep an eye on the white spongy thing and if it spreads.

    Re: star polyp trouble

Thanks Scuba dude I think that the scientific name is briaruim sp. Im pretty sure that's how you spell it. Of course, when I mentioned that Im getting new corals, I meant eventually so dont get me wrong there. My computer is having some trouble right now, so I can't post any pics at the moment. Does anyone know what the spungy "mold" does?' and how to get rid of it? I also have a zoanthid in there, but I dont see any of the mold on it so im alittle confused.
