Same coral...different systems
I have two Montipora capricornis pieces given to me by my old associate. Like all caps in the right conditions they have been growing extremely fast. I got these frags in May of this year and until a few weeks ago they have been light brown with white ends. In every other system these pieces are in the colors have always been brown/white. Now they are turquoise with purplish tips. I know how corals can color up under different lighting conditions and all that jazz but this is where it gets weird. I was browsing around and found out that mine aren't the only ones that have changed. The frags taken from the same brown colony are now in that plywood tank that I helped build. They have also changed. I don't talk to that guy any more so I don't know about the mother colony....all that was mentioned were the frags changing. I highly doubt he and I are running the same combination of bulbs or brands but our frags changed colors around the same time. I know of a few other systems with these same pieces in them and I am going to check on them but what are the odds of this happening?
I've heard of pieces from the same colony suddenly dying in seperate systems at the same time which is also weird but not coloring up simultaneously. What do you guys think about that?
Unfortunately I don't have a good picture of the cap before the change because I didn't know until recently how to properly adjust my white balance. If the colony hasn't changed in the other system that I know it's in I'll get a good pic of it and post the comparison.
