The color in that pic doesn't do it justice. It's lined with yellow dots and they really stand out against the pink and red.
Chuck, I'm pretty sure it is one of the members of the Mussidae family, not sure about the genus, though. Have you checked genus Lobophyllia?

Re: Some updated pics.

Thanks Gene. My best guess looking at those pictures is A. echinata or A. subechinata. I'm in the microtechnique lab at school so I don't have the coral right in front of me but one of those has to be right.

Re: Some updated pics.

I've never used one...are they universal or will I have to find one for my specific camera?

Like Charlie said, they are pretty much universal. Having said that, there are plethora of them and sometimes it is hard to make a decision which one to get.
Depending on the camera you have and usage, chose one that is sturdy, affordable and get the job done. Carbon fiber tripods cost an arm and a leg just for the legs alone, but at the same time they weigh next to nothing so if you are going on the shoot somewhere where you'll be hiking they are the choice of the pros.
I personally got nice alloy set up for 129.00, it weighs a ton and I wouldn't think of taking it on a landscape shoot. But indoors it does a great job for me.

Re: Some updated pics.

Yup, they are pretty much all the same thread size. Look for one by SLIK, Manfrotto, Bogen, those are all good brands. If your only intention is for tank work, then you could get one at a discount chain like K-Mart or Walmart, for about $30. Granted it may not last long, but who cares at that price right?

Re: Some updated pics.

Yeah I can handle 30 bucks, for this application I don't think I need to get crazy. It's amazing how expensive some photography equipment is. Those lenses that my mom has for her maxxum 7d are outrageous. I wish they lived closer so I could get some nice macro shots.

Re: Some updated pics.

I'm sorry I haven't been around much lately but the last two weeks have been spent with my face buried in paperwork. They really hit us hard for mid terms but I got through it. Anyway I wanted to update some pics. I received many of these frags 3 months ago from a ReeferMadness frag pack. The bad thing is that you don't pick them and don't know what you're getting.....the good thing is that they sent 4 extras and I was impressed with their picks. Many of them were very small and until now haven't been able to get a good photograph. My books are mostly out on loan and I've had a hard time figuring out what some of these are. I have some ideas.

The first picture I think is an Echinopora.

The second pic I think is Pavona explanulata

Third I know I have seen in one of my books but it's out.

Fourth I have no clue

Fifth...sps turning amazing colors. Sorry for the quality.

Re: Some updated pics.

Any Id you can provide for the previous set would be appreciated.

I lost every ounce of coralline from the walls and glass in the move but nothing from the rock. The rasberry millepora frag is bouncing back nicely. It was the only coral that suffered after the move.

This next set are just some random shots I took yesterday afternoon. Enjoy!

Re: Some updated pics.

Last of the 3 sets.

Gene take a look at the anemone. I cut the flow back for this picture so you could really see everything. There is pretty extreme variation. The part receiving most light has somewhat bulbous tips....lower portion none.

Re: Some updated pics.

Hi Chuck,

Glad you were able to get through the mid term, now you can take a breather...I hope.

Here's my thoughts on id's from the first set.

1) I think it's Echinophyllia.
2)Agree on Pavona but not to my ability to id species.
3)Some type of Montipora, judging by the polyps.
4) Have no clue and pic is just too blurry to give any guesses, I would try disturbing it to retract polyps for better look.
5) Acropora but I'll be a monkey;s uncle if I knew the species.

I see what you mean, Chuck. I have similar thing going on, and on some of the clones the lower portion would be bubbly and top wouldn't...

Everything looks real nice in your tank, Chuck, seems that move didn;t knock anything out of wack, if you know what I mean.

Re: Some updated pics.

Thank you for the comments and imput on the frags. I did have a short diatom bloom on the sandbed and some cyano outbreaks here and there after the move. I don't think my NO3 kit is up to par because according to it my nitrates never spiked. Even when I stir everything up with a turkey baster I'm not registering any. I somehow managed to stay on top of everything though and all is well.

Re: Some updated pics.

Things really are looking good Chuck!!!!

The 5th pic in the first set looks alot like A. sarmentosa. I had one in my old 300, and loved it!!!

Congrats on getting thru midterms, sounds like you had your hands full!!!!

Re: Some updated pics.

Do I need some new software to view the pics in this thread? They are popping up in a new window and are just a blur of colors.

Chuck,

The problem should be solved as soon as Scott finish uploading all of the attachments that were backed up during the last upgrade. It will take some time, though, as there are really lots of things that needs tweaking.

Re: Some updated pics.

I'm laying in the floor of my wifes closet. In the middle of hundreds of pairs of shoes we have a bed of towels. Anna has been telling me that me we have a queen cat for some time now. I've tried to ignore this fact as long as possible. Now she's gone to work and I'm to become some sort of midhusband. The "queen" or Apple for short won't let me out of her sight . Watching this cat I'm fairly certain I'll be seeing a kitten in minutes. I've pulled the laptop in here and figured that it was as good of a time as any to post some pictures. I'll start with these.
