Im guessing your referring to the Picasso Clown percula's that ORA has dubbed recently? If so then yes, to my understanding they are genetic morphs that have very low odds in each batch of fry. This is why they are so expensive....Cool looking fish though arent they

Re: false percula clownfish?

False perculas are A. ocellaris while Picasso clowns are A. percula, so the answer is no.

Re: false percula clownfish?

Here is what ORA says about them on their website:

Picasso Percula Clownfish - variation of Amphiprion percula

The Picasso Percula is a selectively bred True Percula Clownfish with erratic misbarring, similar to a jigsaw puzzle piece, covering over 75% of its body. A very small percentage of offspring of Picasso pairs retain these characteristics. Each fish is unique with its own distinctive misbarring. Because of the limited occurrence of the misbarring, availability of the Picasso Percula is limited.

P.S. -- I believe what happened is that ORA decided to keep two misbarred Percula clowns that they considered particulary striking, meaning really screwed up. That original pair began producing babies and only a very small percentage of their babies came out with similar misbarring.

If they continue to select for this trait by pairing up only fish that are similarly misbarred, they might improve the odds over many generations.

Let's be honest about it, they're freaks.
