Re: Green water in fl

Sounds like you have some sort of algae bloom going on. Did you use RO/DI water to start up?
You got any draperies on that window?

Well, if it was me........... I would close the blinds, and start making some RO/DI water for some water changes!!!! What size tank are we into here?

Re: Green water in fl

Direct sunlight definitely causes algae blooms! And like Charlie said your tap water source might have elements your old water didn't, like phosphates or silicates contributing to algae growth. If your tank's near a sunny window though, I hope you've got a thermometer and some sort of temperature control, heater or chiller depending on how hot or cool it is in your pad - don't want to overheat or have unstable temperatures from day to night, etc.

It isn't gonna disappear overnite!!!!! Give it some time. Read my signature line, believe me, I have been thru the hair algae thing. Took 6 months and a thriving refugium to do that. Just keep up those water changes, and you will see improvement over time.

I disagree, you need nutrients for the algae to grow....not just sunlight

I agree w/this statement, and believe that this is the source of the problem...not the sunlight.

Re: Green water in fl

Hi Roxy
I wanted to add a few other comments, what are you feeding your tank? Sometimes flake foods or other foods can be high in phosphates. Also if you can afford to get a TDS meter and test your RO water coming out of the RO unit to see how clean it is. If your TDS is 0ppm then you are good. Are you using a skimmer? If so I would be cleaning that bad boy as often as possible.

Re: Green water in fl

Good deal Roxy You will get it under control, don't worry, it just takes time. Cleaning your skimmer regularly is important!!!!
You can try to suck up whatever algae you can when you do the WC, but sometimes it is just better to let nature take its course. Stick with, and we are always somewhere around here.
