new tank help

Hey everyone I am brand new to saltwater tanks. I have a 25 gl tank that has probably a week or so left in cycling. I was wonderng if anyone had some stocking suggestions, I want to get it right and not add to many or to few. I bought a couple books that were suggested to me from a pet store but they are pretty uninformative.

Hi Tdtanks

I would first suggest to give all the info on your tank...amount of Live Rock...type of liverock, type of skimmer, and list all other equipment such as lights, kelvin ratings, the more info you give us the better your answer will be What type of fish do you want? Have you made a list of all the fish you want so we can narrow it down for you? Have you had an algae bloom yet? Added any snails, crabs, shrimps anything?!?!? Also give us all your water parameters like SG, Temp, PH, Nitrates, Nitrites, Ammonia. And anything else you can think of :P

Re: new tank help

I'm sure the folks here can offer you a lot of great advice on stocking your tank. Since you mentioned you'd picked up some books that weren't helpful, I thought I'd recommend a great saltwater setup and stocking guide (I'm looking into my first saltwater setup too) that has been really helpful and is also getting good reviews: The New Marine Aquarium by Michael S. Paletta. Found my copy on Amazon.
It mostly covers FOWLR systems, and explains setup (especially re: live rock) simply but thoroughly. He also goes over a lot of popular marine fishes and suggests good combinations for beginners. Wondering if there are other books that people find helpful? I've tried a few others I wasn't too keen about.

Re: new tank help

While there is still time and before you have made any major mistakes, use the search feature and search for QT. Some time spent reading these threads shoud convince you about the importance, simplicity and affordability of using a quarantine tank properly. Secondly, take your time and don't rush the stocking of your tank.

These are the two most important pieces of advise I can think of. Don't make the same mistakes most of us have made.
