I have one in my tank but I'm not using a DSB. The red coris certainly loves to dig around in the 1" deep layer of aragonite that I have. I would imagine it would make a total mess of a DSB of fine sand. Mine is constantly stirring and digging looking for little morsels. I've had people tell me that they WILL go after snails and shrimp. Mine still has it's juvenile coloring and so far it has never bothered them at all. Been in the tank for about 6 months and so far it's been a fine citizen.

I've had one in a reef for about a year, a 180g with a 3-4" DSB of very fine sand. It was fairly well behaved, I didn't notice it digging too much, although it did like to turn over rocks and look for things. He was a really nice fish actually. I think he may have had a bit of a go at my very small hermit crabs, but not too sure. Didn't seem to harm shrimps. They get pretty big, so you'll want a fairly big tank, 180g minimum IMO.
Regards, Tom |
