    Hi,

No, they wont eat snails or shrimp. They will however, destroy your sandbed infauna.

    too bad huh!

I have one in my tank but I'm not using a DSB. The red coris certainly loves to dig around in the 1" deep layer of aragonite that I have. I would imagine it would make a total mess of a DSB of fine sand. Mine is constantly stirring and digging looking for little morsels. I've had people tell me that they WILL go after snails and shrimp. Mine still has it's juvenile coloring and so far it has never bothered them at all. Been in the tank for about 6 months and so far it's been a fine citizen.

I've had one in a reef for about a year, a 180g with a 3-4" DSB of very fine sand. It was fairly well behaved, I didn't notice it digging too much, although it did like to turn over rocks and look for things. He was a really nice fish actually. I think he may have had a bit of a go at my very small hermit crabs, but not too sure. Didn't seem to harm shrimps. They get pretty big, so you'll want a fairly big tank, 180g minimum IMO.
    Regards,
    Tom

    Hello red coris wrasse,

Before purchasing a red coris wrasse (Coris gaimard), you should be sure that this is an appropriate fish for your aquarium. For starters, it has an adult size of 40cm (15.75"). I believe it needs a minimum tank size of 1,000 liters.

It is a very active, rambunctious fish that is not really appropriate for a reef aquarium because of its messy habits. It requires a nice sand bed of at least 8-10cm.

I posted comments about Coris gaimard yesterday in this post. I suggest you read it.

As far as information on where you can purchase one in Nottingham, I would like to point out a couple of things: 1) this thread is eight years old, and 2) this is an American board. One of the members who posted to this particular thread is from Australia but the others are from the U.S.

You might have better results posting to one of the UK bulletin boards.

However, I did run a Google search and came up with the following marine fish stores in Nottinghamshire:

Charlie has an entire thread devoted to his Emperor Angel showing it change from juvenile coloration to adult coloration. The juvenile coloration is on page 1 and the adult coloration is on page 4 of that thread.

I'm not sure what information you want. If you're asking if they're reef-aquarium safe, then the answer is "maybe." They need large aquariums. I wouldn't put one of these in anything less than a 210-gal tank. It's better to have at least a 300-gal tank.
