I don't buy it, if someone asks about a Reef Devil skimmer it would get moved. If someone asks about a Lifereef skimmer should it get moved? Lifereef is a vendor\manufacturer

OK, obviously I don't understand your question. I thought you were referring to the recent posts concerning the service and quality of workmanship of a certain custom tank builder that two members opened in the Reef Aquariums forum and the reply from the vendor that was posted in the same forum. These posts seemed to relate to customer review of a vendor, and those posts have always been in this forum

Please be specific and let me know which post you are asking about.

Thanks,

Ninong,
ETSS builds sumps and skimmers, Lifereef builds sumps and skimmers, PFO builds lighting systems, Ice Cap builds lighting systems, IA builds tanks. These companys build products and are different than say premium aquatics, Jeff's, Marine Depot. From past post\topics if somebody were to post a topic on say a Reef Devil skimmer it would be moved. If somebody were to post a topic on PFO lighting it would be moved. How does the IA topic differ? This is only one of a few examples. If I were to post a topic that I bought a custom built skimmer from Jeff's, made by Jeff it would probably be moved (equipment). I have posted about LR from Jeff's and assumed this to be reef related. IMO, I also think the IA threads are reef related and should stay but it looks funny to me that you move certain threads and leave certain threads. I wonder if the IA threads would have been moved had you bought an ALL GLASS tank

This is in no way a stab at you, just an observation.

Golfish ~

Bajathree posted a thread concerning equipment that he purchased from Reefland.com His post was in the nature of favorable review of equipment that had been manufactured by Reefland.com (ReefRacks). He posted it to the Reef Aquariums forum and it was allowed to stay there. Other members have posted favorable reviews of sumps that were manufactured by Reefland.com in the Reef Aquariums forum and they were allowed to stay there. Should anyone post an unfavorable review, it would be allowed to remain in the Reef Aquariums forum, too.

Bajathree posted a thread concerning a shipment of live rock and live sand that he received from Reefland.com His post was in the nature of an unfavorable service review (the shipment arrived damaged). He posted it to the Reef Aquariums forum and it was allowed to stay there.

Many members have posted both favorable and unfavorable vendor-reviews in the Reef Aquariums forum concerning live rock, fish, corals, and equipment. And they have been allowed to stay there, whether they were favorable or unfavorable reviews.

Three different members opened threads on the same topic in the past three days. One started a thread in the Tanks, Filtration & Basic Equipment forum and two members opened threads in the Reef Aquariums forum. All three of these threads concerned an unfavorable vendor-review by a member of this board and provided links to a lengthy complaint thread on another board.

There is a difference between a post that requests information about which skimmer to buy or who has the best price on metal halide light fixtures and a post that relates to a customer's complaint about his experience with a vendor. Were we to move such threads to another forum, some might accuse us of trying to hide the issue because it is an unfavorable review of a product that we may like.

Once the complaint thread is allowed to remain in the Reef Aquariums forum, it is necessary to allow any response from the vendor in the same forum. (This is no different than the recent thread opened by Rob to complain about service from Premium Aquatics which was responded to by Melissa Frey. It is nice to hear that Rob is now completely satisfied with the response from that vendor to his complaint.)

At the present time, we do not have a separate forum exclusively for the posting of vendor reviews.

I may be wrong here but I will take a stab at it.
As far as vendor posts are concerend, either good or bad, they are left in the reef forum as it is the most trafficed(is that a word?) area.
True IA is a munufacture, but they are also a retailer. Now when a complaint of that nature, or say like the shimpment from reefland the went bad, We leave that in the reef forum. As far as using an example of a reefdevil skimmer vs an Aqua c skimmer, that is an equipment question. If you are needing to complain about the functionality of a reef devil that is still an equipment post. Now, if reefdevil were a retailer also, which I do not think that they are??? And you were to post about the product you recieved , and how unfavorable or great it was to get it and work with the people that you dealt with, well then that would stay in the reef forum?
Is this kinda what you are referencing to?

All I can say is that it sounds like some haven't seen a board crash. Its about as much fun as a tank doing it. I know I'll try to post where it is the best for the board.

I get confused. Is a DSB a filter? Are infauna part of the filter or are they part of the main forum. How about Live Rock, where does it go? Is Calurpa part of the filter and equip. section?

Posts concerning sand beds and live rock have been made in the Reef Aquariums forum. This would also be true of discussions of sand bed meio- or infauna, or any fauna for that matter, except ichthyofauna in a fish-only system. Caulerpa would normally be discussed in the Reef Aquariums forum unless your question was specifically related to the use of Caulerpa in a fish-only system.

Choosing the correct forum is less confusing if you remember that the three equipment forums are all subsections under the heading: Equipment. If your post concerns equipment, choose one of those three subsections.

This is done automatically; in fact, you are linked directly into the thread, not just to the forum. All you have to do is click on the "Moved" box at the upper left of any thread that has been moved. All bulletin boards have this feature.

I've always thought the forums were pretty straight forward, and usually I take a pretty good guess as to which one to post in.

The one suggestion I really like is when a post is moved, supply the link to the new forum. That would make navigating simpler for most of us who read all of one forum before going to another.

i agree with ravenmore,
if it's not in general discussion, i'm probably going to miss it. which is why i posted about the $10 co2 regulator on this forum and not the equipment forum. save reefers some money with the most hits.

Ninong is right. I have been a member of other forums in the past and one did have everything grouped together...it was bad. there were about 20 pages of continues to go through! Eventually it was seperated because most everybody stopped reading after a couple pages!
I havent been here long but I can tell you that this is a very good and easy site to navigate...dont fix it if its not broke!
