Ninong,
Its a tough call, what lighting and whats not..I think its a better idea to leave post about lighting for corals\clams on this section rather than move it to the lighting section...just a thought |

Yes, it is true that discussions about how corals and clams are affected by lighting is of interest to all reefkeepers. Our problem is that the Reef Aquariums forum is practically not working because it is getting too many posts. It would still be possible to discuss the effects of lighting on organisms in the Lighting Forum. Members have to get in the habit of browsing all of the forums. I understand your point but there is no room in the inn. Ninong ------------------ Irrational Exuberance! |

I think it's a good idea. Sorry for the times I have posted in the incorrect forum. I guess it's better to post in the correct one and hopefully have the search engine working.
Keep up the good work Ninong. Susan |

Great job to Ninong and to all the moderators in all forums. I see how difficult it has become as of recent. There were just 15 or so posts in a row that Ninong moved. It would be wonderful to have the search function work properly in the reef forum. I'll do my part to help out!

We have an Equipment Section with three forums:
Scott Z. has asked that all equipment related posts be made to one of those three forums. It is pretty obvious, to me anyway, what constitutes an equipment post. The reason that the search feature does not work in the Reef Aquariums forum, is because it is overloaded. What I usually do when I see an equipment post in the Reef Aquariums forum is to allow it to get a couple of hits before moving it to the correct forum. I also leave it in the original incorrect forum (usually this means the Reef Aquariums forum) after it has been moved. This doesn't seem to be working very well. Scott Z. has posted reminders on the board asking that members please select the appropriate forum for their posts, but the number of equipment posts that are going into the Reef Aquariums forum have only increased recently. Yesterday, in addition to moving equipment posts out of the Reef Aquariums forum, I also deleted all posts that had previously been moved from that forum during March and February. Those posts still reside in the equipment forum to which they were moved, but they no longer reside in both forums. I will go back and delete all of the moved posts from the Reef Aquariums forum going back to the beginning of time to see if that helps the situation any. I am also trying to move a few of the Reef Aquariums posts that are more than 60 days old to the Archives and delete posts that had value for a limited time, such as "Happy Birthday," etc. Scott Z. does not have the time to keep up with this himself, that's why he has moderators to assist him. It would also help if the members would be a little more selective in choosing the correct forum to start with. Scott is looking into upgrading the software and possibly changing to a server with more capacity, but in the meantime, we are trying to keep the present board from crashing. All of the posts that were moved that originated in the month of April still reside in both forums, the original forum and the forum to which they were moved. I intend to delete moved threads from the original forum after one week. We are hoping that if we move some of the older threads to the Archives and delete those with little "lasting value," we may restore the search function to the Reef Aquariums forum. hmmmmmm - well, maybe I'm just lazy but if it's not in the reef keeping forum then I probably won't read it. Personally I kind of like more stuff in one forum. A lot of the other topics, such as quite a bit of the fish only stuff, is valuable to reef keepers as well.
That sucks about having a hard time keeping one forum going because of the number of posts. Is it a server issue? Don't get me wrong - I enjoy this site and it is FREE so I'm not complaining, just voicing my personal preferences. -Mike ------------------ I didn't do it. I'm with Ravenmore. I like everything in one forum.
I think posts are moved too soon. I think many threads are dying premature deaths in other forums. Let them run their course in the main forum. Face it--this is where most people look. Otherwise, I really enjoy this site. Well-done! ------------------ Chris Gillespie Don't miss the RRVAC's Coral Auction Sunday, May 6th! Red River Valley Aquarium Club |

I have found that the other forums dont get the traffic because they come to the reef to look for everything. I too have put stuff in the reef that needed to be in the others, but I also have put stuff in the other forums and some of my posts have recieved some traffic.

I'm curious why so many non-reef forums even exist, on a reef board!
I see people (incluuiding me) posting anything at all to the REEF forum anyway, hoping that it will be seen before it gets moved somewhere else, where it WON'T be seen, and the questions might not get proper answers. But then again, I was posting to Reefland when we were very small, and I liked that more simple atmosphere. Things have changed, and I might be wrong. But what I mentioned above IS happening. Would simply posting less, help with the server problem? ------------------ Cheers, Rob New York City |

Some people have asked why certain vendor-related threads are in the Reef Aquariums forum instead of one of the Equipment forums.
The answer is that we have always permitted vendor-review threads in the Reef Aquariums forum. In an attempt at even-handedness and fairness, all vendor-review threads, both good and bad, have been left in this forum. Several weeks ago, three or four threads concerning one particular vendor were deleted by the board's administrator as being inappropriate.
