new tank suggestions

Hey everyone I was looking for some suggestions on my new tank set up. This is my first saltwater tank its a 25gl 20hx24wx12d, I have about 14pds of live rock. I was looking for suggestions on lighting, powerhead types and placement, and filter upgrades. Currently I have the standard aquarium hood with the lighting that came with it, A maxi-jet 600, and a mellennium 2000 wet-dry filter. Also any suggestions for stocking would be very helpfull.

Re: new tank suggestions

OOOooooeeee hehe.

With a tank that shallow you will be good with T5 lighting and will be able to keep just about anything you want with the right setup. Unless you plan on modding the maxi-jet (even so) I would recommend getting a koralia 1 or 2 depending on what you want to keep. With the correct ammount of live rock and flow you wont even need a filter and actually HOB filters can become nitrate factories anyways (non bio-wheel type).

So...the real question is, what do you want to keep and how much do you want to spend?

Re: new tank suggestions

if your referring to your stock hood lights, you need more than bulbs

Nova Extreme T5H0 | Current What's Next

this is the lighting system i got, you should have at least 3-5 watts per gallon, and 1.5-2 lbs of live rock from all that ive reasearched

get that wallet out lol

Re: new tank suggestions

WPG is an OLD rule of thumb these days. What really counts is the amount of PAR being delivered into the tank. That light will do a fine job of delivering it too hehe. Make sure you get the Pro model of the Nova fixture.

Re: new tank suggestions

For a 4 bulb setup the general consensus is that this is the best setup.

ATI Blue Plus
UVL Super Actinic

Re: new tank suggestions

It is a 4 bulb fixture, all bulbs are run at the same time.

the one i posted is actualy

front
actinic blue
10kk white
* 2 lunars *
actinic blue
10kk white

the blues are on a seperate switch than the whites and the lunars are on a seperate plug as is the lights fan so 4 powercords for that fixture total. so you can cycle the whole night/dawn/day/dusk/night cycle

Re: new tank suggestions

from what ive read (and i did alot before i bought mine) T5's are better than compact flourecence.

i also think you should wait just a bit for the anemone. my 26 gallon is 2 months old and doing good and i want an anemone too but you have to be cautious with them and the longer you let your tank cycle the better (im assuming your new tank set up was close to your post date of 12/19 above)
