Last night was the night I have been waiting for! I have had a pathetic 20-gallon fish-only tankfor the past year, and I just upgraded to a 75 gallon,
which will eventually be transitioned to reef. (in a few weeks..)
Here are some pictures of my newest addition and the 6-hour process of setting it up and transferring my 20-gallon into it as well!
Almost there......
Argonite and rock is in.......
Nemo, newly acclimated to his new home......![]()
Glad to see that Nemo and Fin are doing OKWhat are your future plans for the tank?
Rocky
I need to wait a few weeks before I can really dive into anything crucial, but when I can add new livestock, I want a family of tangs. I'm looking at the blue, yellow, and sailfin.
A new VHO lighting system is much needed, because I plan on adding corals as well. I'm gunna take it one step at a time..
Any suggestions for me?
I am going to sound like the tang police here but I would strongly suggest against a "family" of tangs in a tank that small. Especially the gigantic sailfin.
I would look at a single:
Yellow Tang
Kole Tang
Blue Tang ( should really be in a 120+ )
Tomini Tang
Bristletooth Tang
Why VHO lighting? If not being supplimental to something else, I would not use it as my primary light source. Look into T5HO lighting systems.

i have the exact same tank, stand and everything
The main thing here is to take things slowly. Let your system cycle and get prepared to handle livestock. A new system is a harsh environment as many changes will be taking place over the next few months...even a year old system is still maturing. During this first month or so take some time to research possible additions so that you ensure their happiness and survival.

I strongly urge you to reconsider attempting to keep three tangs in a 75-gal tank. That would be a recipe for disaster.
Of the three species you are interested in, only the yellow tang (Zebrasoma flavescens) should be considered for a 75-gal tank. I personally do not consider a 75-gal tank large enough for any tang at all but some so-called experts say that a single yellow tang might be kept in a tank that is at least 75 gallons. Those same experts recommend a minimum size of 135 gallons for a sailfin tang (Z. desjardinii, Z. veliferum) and a minimum of 100 gallons for a blue tang (Paracanthurus hepatus).
A couple of other possibilities for a 75-gal tank would be either the kole tang (Ctenochaetus strigosus) or the scopas tang (Z. scopas). However, you should not attempt to keep more than one tang in a 75-gal tank. And again, I don't recommend even a single tang for a 75-gal tank but some people think that one individual of the species I named might be kept in such a tank. In my opinion, the minimum size tank for any tang is 135 gallons, and for the larger tangs, 300 gallons.
VHO lighting would work well for a 75-gal tank but you might also want to look into T5 HO lighting.A new VHO lighting system is much needed, because I plan on adding corals as well. I'm gunna take it one step at a time..
Any suggestions for me?
Good luck!

Thanks for all your help everyone...
One thing I can do is be patient, I'm normally good with that![]()
That's awesome that you have the same tank! It's gorgeous...
Yes i love it! It was actually set up as a freshwater tank in the lobby of my work.
The fish kept dieing so they sold me the tank, stand, lighting etc. for 150 bucks! i couldn't go wrong so i bought it. It sat around my house for a few months and a pet store near my house was going out of business, so i bought everything to go saltwater for very cheap.
I probably saved 2000 dollars all together!
Good luck.. hows the progress?
So you still spent 2k? LOL![]()
