What size line does everyone use for a siphon break line? I have a small line I attached to each flex line, when the power goes out it doesnt break the siphon and the tank wants to drain to the outlets of the loc-line. I can add a larger pipe if need be.

Does your sump have the capacity to handle the amount of water that is retuned to it when the power goes off? I believe your trying to reduce the amount of water that drains out during a power outage correct?

Paul,
Still not sure what your talking about. How did you attach a small line to the flex line? |

Here is a picture.
This shot is with the water level low in the tank so the end of the hose is not submerged. The hose is stuck in the "y" of the flex loc-line and supposively when the power goes out the water will only drop as far as the end of the siphon hose which allows air in and breaks the siphon. This is the diffrence between a few gals and 30 gals dumping back into the sump ------------------ ------------------------ Paul C Things should be made as simple as possible, but not any simpler. I don't know if this will work in your situation, but my siphon-break is simply a small hole in the pvc line going into the tank. The hole is probably about 1/8" in diameter with no airline running to the surface. This also helps to keep the water level a bit turbulent and stirred up.

What about a check valve? I have tried siphon breaks in the past and would never do it again. Home depot sells a 1" PVC check valve that is very easy to put water though. No resistance at all. But if you still want to use a siphon break, try a hole in the PVC right below the water line 1/4" or so just as skipper stated. You might want to angle the hole downward into the tank.

shoeman, I have heard after your tank matures then the check valves wont work due to the stuff that grows inside the lines and keeps the "check" from operating.
