Re: Sean Concrete tank Photos
It's a gorgonian. You'll have to wait for Sean to tell you the exact species.

Thank you all.
You right Ninong. It is a Gorgonian, but I do not know the species. Never actually thought of getting the id for it. Always admiring it, and never thinking of the proper name...LoL |

Re: Sean Concrete tank Photos
H2oGirl,
Go back to the photo of the gorgonian. The first thing you want to do when you see a photo of a coral and you're wondering what it is, is you count the tentacles each polyp has. In this case it has eight and not six. So that eliminates all the stony corals (hexacorals). Here's another example, let's say you're looking at something that looks like what they call a flowerpot coral. That could be either a goniopora or an alveopora. So you count the tentacles on each polyp. Twelve tentacles means it's an alveopora and 24 tentacles means it's a goniopora. There are obvious tips for identifying SPS, too. For example, acropora always have an axial coralite. The radial coralites are the ones around the sides of the branches and the axial coralite is the one at the tip end of the branch. ![]()
