New aquascaping

Well I didnt get it the way I wanted....I have too much LR...I wanted to do the Japanese style reefs...and a buddy of mine came over and He bought about 25 lbs of LR from me, and one of my hippo tangs too. Geez I would have to get rid of ALOT of rock to do the Japanese style!!! well here is a pic of my tank b4 aquascaping it

Now here is what it looks like now (note the cave in the R. side)

Left Side

Right Side

My fish seem more happy now that they have more room.....Im still not happy with what came out but I want to leave it alone for a while. Here is one more pic that I took that I LOVE!

I like the new look better! You're right, with so much liverock it's almost impossible to arrange things! And guess what?! I must have been bitten by the same tank bug as you today, I transferred the 10 gallon into the new tank! All except 4 pieces of rock that I have NO idea where I'm putting in the new tank. And some sand. I'll post pics tomorrow.

scubadude.....it looks great man....i deffinitely like it better this way.....i removed a bunch of lr. from my 10 and put it in my 20 and they both look soooooo much nicer now. the japanese styles are, in my mind, alot easier to do if you have a very tall tank and a fairly wide tank.....like the one pic w/ the lr. stacked like towards the center and it goes up.....i think the japanese style is much more based on building up more so than it is building out. it was a valient effort but either way your tank looks great and in the end thats what you were trying to do so.....mission accomplished.

scubadude:

Looks very nice. Did you get any surprises when you rearranged the LR? I was shocked when doing some aquascaping recently to see my nice little 3" brittle starfish had grown to an 8" monster.

Not really...the only surprises i got, where kinda pleasant....a bunch of button polyps and mushrooms have attached to small pieces of rock that I didnt know about till moving around the rocks. So I ended up with about 5 different frags.....well the day b4 doing this aquascape I just got back from my LFS and gave them 5 or 6 frags of softies in exchange for a 5 gal bucket of salt now I got them frags replaced and I didnt even expect it .....thank god for the room in my Refugium!

in my 55, since I'm making most of the live rock, I'm going to have 2 huge peaces on either side of the tank filled with sps frags, with room in the middle for open brains, god I hope you can glue sps fargs horizontally

Okay, I got inspired by scubadude and did some aquascaping of my own. Moving all of their "furniture" has certainly confused the fish, and I'd guess that I'll need to do some minor adjustments to insure that the corals are happy.

60 gallon tank before the aquascaping"

After the aquascaping:

Thanks SCETT316 and scubadude.

I've been thinking about decreasing the amount of LR in my tank ever since I saw the first photos of the Japanese tanks. I took out the densest, least porous pieces, leaving about 35 pounds.

Given that the DSB is the most critical component of the filtration system, it seems that the usual recommendation for 1 1/2 to 2 pounds of LR per gallon may be overkill.

Since I took my photos, I've placed the heater and grounding probe in the Remora Pro skimmer, trying to un-clutter my tank. Since it is only 12 inches wide, I don't have room for a large sump under the tank to hide components in.
