CPR Hang on Ref.
I saw the CPR hang on ref. in a Pet Whs. Catalog. Is this thing worth $100+ of should I wait until I can get a "real" ref set up?

Things wrong with it:
1. constantly spewing bubbles into the tank, they have an add-on for this, but I dont have the room in my tank for it. 2. It took me about 5 months to fine tune it, and then when I re-arranged my rocks, It stopped working! I guess it'll be another 5 months until it starts working optimally... 3. The Rio PH it comes with is crap, It back siphoned all the bubbles in the skimmer chamber into my tank! 4. The Remora isnt much more $$. 5. after buying a new PH, an air pump to get it to work, and some other junk for it, it came out to about $170! mark |

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think we are talking about two different products here.
I'm refering to the CPR AquaFuge external hang on refugium. I think you are refering to the CPR Bak Pak skimmer. Ryan

I think both the skimmer and the refugium are great products. I think the refugium in my circumstances was worth the price. However, if you have room for a 10 gal or more sump under your aquarium, turn that into a refugium instead. The only complaint I have is that the refugium isn't big enough. I put a single 55 W 6750K PC over it. I bought the hardware from AH SUpply for about $40, and put in an 18 month old bulb rather than toss it away.

If you have room for a larger refugium under the tank then do that. I didn't so I bought the 24" model Aquafuge. A nice quality unit that took 10 minutes to set up with a DSB, LR, and macro. They offer lighting for it but I DIY. Seems to grow macro quite well but I don't know if it makes a big difference in exporting nutrients in my size tank. The pods and bristle worms are growing like crazy. The flow isn't too great especially if you put in any LR so, like mine, there is the potential for cyano outbreaks. Just add another microjet powerhead.
