LOL....Yer kidding right? Has the thought ever crossed yer mind that you may be into your own realm there bro!

Ok heres my input....My first thought....WOW thats alot of wood....I would have done it with less wood! 2nd thought how much does that bad boy weigh?

It is architectually unique in looks...but are you gonna cover it up with paneling/plywood/the tank itself, if so then looks dont count for anything.

Sorry I havent followed this thread like I have been wanting to, so maybe I missed something....Didnt you say you where using thinner glass than normal that you could structure it more? maybe this is why you are using thinner glass so you have a more structural sound stand reinforcement?

You have definately thought this out, and are definately eccentric dewd!
I think there are just alot of people just following this thread to wait and see how it turns out. By all means dont judge what you do by your responses....you seem to have a path of your own that you like to follow ;)

Yeah I now... the only reason I was asking on the refugium end was only grom the standpoint of is bigger better? ...Only from the knowing of where I was when I left, before I ever heard the term "refugium" versus just biological filtering. It's like now then when I look at some of the filtering setups here I kinda see exactly what I used to have 10+ years ago but now just different terminology and in a degree it confuses me a bit..

as far as the stand build goes and weight... Ugh! yes, it is built like a brick shlthouse and as far as the base itself goes the weight is not as much as you think if I had to tag a # on it? 150 Lbs.alone and for the refuguim then add 100 empty, which I glued up Saturday and now is 60"L X 17"H X 16"W (dont have my camera here today so I will post a pic as soon as I bring it back here) To kind of heed a method toward my madness I built it as such is from what I remeber from before again and never having enough free room from under the tank hence my old filtering got pushed through a wall once it out grew the space constraints below of it and wound up in barrels and a seperate wet/dry tank and a "refuguim" grew in size till it eventually grew into 1/2 a basement ful with 5-55 gal drums and pumps, wires, plumbing, timer and so on.. going everywhere like a death trap. I really want to keep it contained to all witin itself.. reduce the clutter sprawling.

And yes none of its structure will be seen once finished and when the finishing & enclosing pieces get put to it all there is are 3 wraps of 1" X 5" dimensional oak with all getting 5 or 6 coats of varnish (the hood will also be done to match this as well but haven't gotten to that point yet) and then for the large open spaces they will all get sliding doors made from just pain old black glass that is coated in what they black spandrel, and happily I don't have to buy them since I found some old ones from a job color swap and I made the stand so I would be able to use them all... So like I said I am trying to do this all from what I have on hand and stuff I would normally throw away in the garbage. amd so far all has been fitting perfectly from that standpoint.

and when you get down to the actual weight of the entire uit itself... I am not worried about where I will be setting it for the fact it all will sit on the top of a 6" concrete slad and the wall that it will be set on is a 8' tall concrete foundation wall.. seeing as the last one was larger but more spread out, no worries.

and I am running the last pice for the tank this week and it will be glued up next weekend so hopefully I will be doing the water test 2 weeks from nxt weekend. and the intention of it thus far is to have it moved and placed into it home by march 1st. Once I am at that point then I will only have to weed thru my old equpment and decide if and what to re-use and re-place... which then I hope to be filling for the start cycling by mid march.

    Re: Bug's 200+ reef build

Making progress on the filter, yeah I know everyone says refugium... until someone details the difference I will keep calling it a filter : )=

    So Anyway... The filter came out to be 60"L X 17"H X 16 1/2"D

From here I will split into 3 sections, at least that seems to be most common config I have ben seeing anyway... it will separate into 2 ends that = 16 12/L X 17H X16 1/2D and the the center section that will end up 30" in width give or take....

on the left section where the 3 dividers will go on the way to the sump I am going to make a charcoal basket that comes out for easy changing but not so that it runs down through the flow but rather up through the flow to try and keep it less likely to settle and clog so I hopefully will get a little bit more life from the carbon.

The right side secton will house the skimmer

as soon as I can remove the clamps, trim the excess and move the filter to the another table in a day or two I will add the dividers. : )....
