Need Help

Im new at this and I have just put together a 36g bowfront. The problem im having is that the water is cloudy and brown. Please help what do i need to keep my tank crystal clear. its been only a month and all I have is live sand and rocks and a cleanup team. The fish store I go to told me I did not need a protein skimmer, but from what i have been reading I think I need to purchase one ASAP. Any help would be nice. Thank you

A protein skimmer is a must on any system agreed. Look to Aqua C Remora for a good one. If you have a recirc filter I have used quilt batting........cheap at Wal Mart for a media to clarify well. This stuff is like five bucks a ton at Wal Mart but it has filtered out a lot of stuff when I was starting up.

Hi rvasquez
Welcome to reefland!

I agree w/lightcycler that you do need a protein skimmer and the remora is a good model that he suggested. Also you state that you have sand and rocks...are your rocks live rocks? Do that have growth on them? Where they purchased wet or dry? Have you taken any test on your tank yet like ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, ph, temp, SG? What kind of lights do you have on your tank? The more info you give us about your tank setup the more detailed answers we can give you to help you analyze any problems you may be having. Dont get discouraged...we will help ya get through this
