Hello,
I'm in the process of setting up a 90g reef DT with bottom of tank 1" drain (600gph) to sump located directly beneath DT. Head would be about 4 to 5'. Return bulkhead at bottom of DT is 3/4". I prefer to set up an external return pump and T off the return line with two pvc lines with split loc line for each that would flow into the DT and help to eliminate powerheads. Two fuges are planned so I'll be teeing off return to the first fuge. All will be located in a finished basement in close proximity. I've had several suggestions for a pump, from the Danner Mag 7 700gph and Sedra 7000A to the Sequence Dart or Sequence Marlin. I like the Marlin for its 1" in and 3/4" out connections which will enable be to run 3/4" pvc throughout. I've been told that both Sequence pumps are overkill. Any and all suggestions for a reliable, effective pump would be much appreciated. Bill the OlGeezer Impatiently waiting for patience ![]() |

Re: Return pump
Bill,
I'm running similar to what you are stating and I'm only running one MAG-12. Actually I know it has a 3/4" output, but not sure on the input. However, since you seem to be teeing it off more than me, you might be okay with using it. It works for me, but actually is a little too much for my setup. However, I only tee'd off it once to make two return lines and I'm running a 1" setup all the way through (from the pump all the way through the return lines). I even have to partially close a ball valve as well. So, if you're planning on using 3/4", then the MAG12 might be a bit much. However, so far it's worked great and I even got it used. I cannot comment on the rest of the pumps listed due to me not using any other pump before. However, I'm sure someone will chime in about them. ![]() Some of the beginning pics in my thread about my 90 build will show you how I plumbed everything and you'll probably see it's similar to what you are thinking of (at least I think it is). Ya, another 90g build...but this one is MINE!!! HTH

Re: Return pump
The Marlin I believe is definitly overkill. The Dart may work, especially if you plan on splitting the return to one fuge. The Dart is 3600 gph, and you are definitly gonna throw some water. Maybe try looking for something in the 2000-2500gph range. Do not use Loc-line externally.

Re: Return pump
Thanks, Mat and Charlie, for your input. Once I get the pump in house I'll start plumbing. Really concerned about 90 degree elbows affecting the flow so will be using mostly 45's where I can and 90's only when I have to. Not sure about a check valve, just one more item to clean and possibly fail?? Have unions and tru-unions so I can disassemble for cleaning purposes. Looking forward to getting this system up and running then it's be patient as all heck while it matures.
