i just purchased a Koralia 3....
wow, what a nice piece of equipment. paid $55,
the LFS that i normally go to has never carried them. I didnt even know about them. I went to a different LFS and saw them in their tank so I bought one. This thing is so powerful that I dont even need any other powerheads. I only have 55 gallon tank... has anyone had any bad experiences with them? You did pay a little more than I would have but I think you will enjoy the purchase. I don't know how they hold up long term but so far mine are doing just fine. I highly doubt they will outlast a MJ but the price is acceptable and the flow pattern is much better. I have 4 of the model 4's in operation and have some friends with the nanos running. Two are in my 75g and two are in a 180. I don't know what you're keeping but even with a mag 18 return line and four of them in a 75g I still had 4 MJ 1200's running in addition.

Re: i just purchased a Koralia 3....
You can get Tunze Streams that move a LOT more water. I am just wondering if a couple of big Streams (in addition to what I already have) would be better than a few Koralia's.

Re: i just purchased a Koralia 3....
I haven't seen the Tunzes in operation so I can't speak for them. Inspecting them in a shop they are definately well built compared to the Koralia which is pretty cheaply made...mostly thin plastics. Some have had problems with the shafts rusting. I haven't seen any evidence of this beginning to happen with mine. I didn't get the first ones to come out though and they may have made some changes.
I haven't seen a side by side comparison and can't get a good mental comparison in mind but from what I've read the Tunzes are smaller. The koralia is a large powerhead even compared with a Seio. The way they are made a lot of algae accumulates on the housing. It's hard for my snails to clean them as well as a Seio or MJ. For the price I will most likely stick with the hydors though. The flow pattern is very nice but slightly less than I expected. Being used to a MJ you can feel the flow from it pretty well. The hydor puts out such a wide pattern that it's hard to judge them. Looking at the big picture I'm happy with adding them to my system. The 180 is a different story. They stick well but the magnets are nowhere near as strong as they are on my 75g. Time in operation is my biggest worry right now with them. Some have had them last since they came out and others have had worse luck. If I can keep them around for a few years at a time I'll keep purchasing them. Here is a pretty good read http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...hlight=koralia
