Nitrate Problem

I have a hight nitrate problem its 80ppm is there any filter media that can help with this problem. I have 120 gallon and I have been doing 40 gallon water changes every 2 week for almost 2 months with no progress. My Phosphate are a little high but every thing else is right on. I dont over feed my tank and don't know what happened.

Re: Nitrate Problem

We'll need to know a lot more detail; starting with how long the tank has been established, what's in it (LR, fish, corals), when those items were introduced, and what type of equipment you are using, before we could even begin to hypothesize on what the issue might be.

Good luck!

Re: Nitrate Problem

The super skimmer coulb be part of the problem, you actually have a decent load on the tank. I the 220 Corilife SS is probally good for a lightly stocked 120 gallon tank. I had the same one and traded up to a much larger Octopus Skimmer, pulls probally 5-6x what the CSS pulled. It's crazy.

Anyway's back on track, what is your water source ? RO/DI ? What is the nitrate of the water before you put it in your tank ?

Any mech filter at all ? Outside of the skimmer ?

Re: Nitrate Problem

I had the same problem in my 65 gal flat back hex.
added a Midwest Adquaics Nitrate reactor, from 80 to 20 in 3 weeks on it way to zero ! my button polops look biger and better my leather coral seem to be brighter and opens more. alge is not growing nearly as fast as it was,

I'm so far a Nitrate reactor fan
