Chemical Warfare

As you guys know the majority of my tank is soft coral. The finger leathers let of toxins and I was wondering, How do keep the toxins down. I have a finger leather that grows like no tomorrow but the other corals in the tank do not do as well. I came to the conclusion that the one type of finger leather is dominant in the tank. Is that possible and how do I keep the toxins down.

I use carbon and have a good skimmer. My frogspawn seems ok, but the devils hand and my colt have not grown. Mushrooms are good and so are the mats

The lights are 4 96 watt PC's on for 10 hours and 2 175 watt halides on for 8 hours and 12 inches above the tank.

Also, as you can see I cant get coraline algae to grow. CA is at 450 ppm too and I keep stronium and magnesium at good levels (I think, dont test them) just add supplement

(I know, put a back stop in the tank for photo purposes)

Re: Chemical Warfare

Hey John

I dont really see any problems right now for space competition which is usually the main cause for chemical warfare, however like you mentioned I could see that your finger leather could very well cause issues though if you let it get out of hand. The first coral that I would suspect of being a problem would be the frogspawn, just be sure to give it plenty of room and try not to let the finger leather invade its turf cuz it will surely sting the finger! And more than likely you wont see it happening (will probably happen @ nite w/lights out)
