I'm glad I'm reading throught the post here on reefland.
I'm glad I read this one becuase I wasn't sure about getting a hermit crab, but now I will not. Thanks guys.
Will the non hermit type kill other cleanup crew members?

I consider ALL crabs to be opprotunistic omnivores, they will ALL eventually eat something you don't want them too.

    Re: No more crabs....

    hey everyone
i think this is my first post on this forum :]

i have to agree with being against hermit crabs
i have about 10 in a 55 and i threw in tons of empty shells for them to switch to but for some reason they keep taking either each others, or the snails :[
they are really fun to watch but still evil

Welcome to Reefland, Kiki! Great to have ya here.

Yup, I'm realizing they are evil little buggers. LOL Luckily I only have one, so he/she just won't be going over to the 90 when it gets up and running.

    yeah
im in the process of setting up a 150
and i want to leave the hermits in my 55 but im putting a snowflake eel in and think that its too mean to kill them
ill probably trade them for snails or something else

    Re: No more crabs....

I have always liked the scarlet hermits. Mine seem to well behaved, usually. I do have lots of shells for them as they grow, so they dont have to hunt for them. My current batch, {well only 6 in a 90g}, have been there about 6 months and none have a snail shell on yet.

    Re: No more crabs....

Well, I think it was partially my fault because I kept telling myself he looks cramped in his current shell and I need to go buy more and throw them in there...well....I was too late. LOL He took out one of the snails for it's shell because it was much bigger. Now I know I need to get to the LFS and get a bunch of shells.

Otherwise, as far as I've ever seen, he hasn't picked on any snails.
