    Please HELP RO DI Problem

    Hi

I purchased a 100 gpd home / aquarium RO-DI unit a few weeks ago and had a friend hook it up. This was his first time. He is a plumber.
Well, after he hooked it up I drank the water and have been using it for evaporation loss and water changes in my 90 reef tank.

I purchased a TDS meter and tested it today and it tested 117! the same as my tap water.

    Unit name is Aqua-safe

    Any advise?

    Thanks

Where did you buy this unit and do you have a picture of it?
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Well, the link you posted has instructions page, have you checked to see if your friend did everything correctly? I realize he;s a plumber, but mistakes could be made by anybody. Also, it says contact Ed if all else fails. I would certainly contact the company and take this up with them. The unit, at least in the pictures, looks like a good unit. Double check all of your filters and see if all of the filters are in the canisters. I know it;s a long shot but you never know...
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Also see what they included for filters. The Carbon Block type may help but since they are a bit costlier you might not have them in both positions (2 and 3 on your model).

The 6th stage is great for drinking but I think you would be better off without it for aquarium water.

I have a very similar system from Watts. And it too has high TDS at first but it looks great now. Your issue might be air related. Give it some time and just use it.

By the way how much water does it really make daily? My 75GPD Membrane is good for about 8 gallons. I have an additional 2 gallon storage can that I am going to plumb in the next time I change out filters.

I like your adjustable flow restrictor. Also if you don't already plumb in 2 shut off's one before the inlet and one at the outlet of the Membrane before the tank. It makes filter changes a lot easier.

Re: Please HELP RO DI Problem

    Hi
Well, last night I turned up the valve that goes to the drain..as it was almost closed and I heard water rain..So today I checked the water from the sink output for drinking and it tested only 5 wow then I checked the tube for my tank and it tested 43 which is much better than the 137 I had yesterday...Maybe the output lines are hooked up wrong? By the way my system leaks all over LOL...Do you know the trick for these quick connects and where to buy more?
It is a 100 gpd unit.
It will give me around 3 gallons then die out for a few hours.

    I will try again tomorrow.

Thanks again.. You are a BIG help

    THANKS
    Alan

I don't know what fittings you are talking about but the ones on mine are a plastic type threaded joint and there is a fine line between too tight and snapping off the nut. I have done just that a few times.

    stinger,

the fittings are probably john guest fittings.. they are push fittings.. the trick to them is to make sure the ends are cut square.. i usually us a fresh razor and make sure you push them in all the way !

Re: Please HELP RO DI Problem

I've responded to the other thread you posted on this topic.

The system you linked to is a retrofitted drinking water system and is mis-configured for reef use.

The system sends purified RO water to the DI stage, and then on to a GAC. DI water is as clean as your system can make it - DI water should not be routed through GAC if your intent is to use it for your tank. If you intend to drink the water, why waste DI capacity on drinking water? RO water is what you want to drink. You need to do some replumbing of the stages you have there.

At a minimum, orient your DI stage so it is vertical, with bottom up flow.

Where are your leaks coming from? The fittings?
