Exclamation ID plz..

hi guys,
i found somethig new in one of the live rocks today. it looks like a brown bubble with orange dots on it. there is a bunch of them (6-8) together in the same spot. what are these??

they look cute though

BTW: my move is scheduled for 17th May. I will post pictures of it.

I'm not sure but it's probably a sponge of some sort, there are too many for me to ID it since I'm not an expert. But I'm pretty sure it's harmless and you don't have to worry about it. Looks pretty cool though but more than likely one of your fish will eat it, depending on your fish of course!

It is not an invert, it is algae.

Could be Botryocladia sp. but I'm not sure.

What a cool algae it is though, is it invasive? I want some!

No, you don't want any, Louise. Unless you have a designated Caulerpa aquarium. It is just as invasive as the green bubble algae, Ventricaria ventricosa.

Oh Boy !! another algae.. huh... i think the move will fix both the gree & brown bubble algae...mmmmm.... will keep you all posted on the move.. thanks a llllllllllllllllllllllot for the help in getting this identified.

Sashi,

If you are moving, you should try to clean off all of the nuisance algae from the live rock before putting it back in the tank.
