last month i told you my extremely bad situation w/ my newly aquired snowflake eel. well that sucked pretty bad but just about as bad as this.....its 530am i am woke by the sent of sulfer......very distinct smell.....how i picked it up i dont know i had my windows open and had 2 fans on but i did.....i looked up at the tank and see water blowing everywhere because the water level dropped below where it usually is. so i hop to my feet and start inspecting only to find my feet wet......i was like oooooooooh noooo........so i look at the clock again just to make sure its about 530 still so i know there are no pet shops open yet so i start tearing down my 20g snowflake habitat.....i just finished getting as much of the h20 soaked up off the floor as i could.....i have the sand in rubbermades as well as the lr. which is wrapped in wet newspapers. my inverts are all in the 2gal tank and the lfs dont open for another hour or two so i figured i'd jump on here and tell you about my WORST DAY AS A SW. AQUARIST VOL.2 after emptying the tank i found that the bottom split open the crack was around 20" long so it didnt take too long for about 5 gal. i'd say to make it onto my floor.

MAN THAT FLAT OUT SUX!!!! Geez I feel for ya JON!!! You have had a bad month....I remember the eel incident that flat out sucked too!! All i can tell you is DONT let this get the best of you.....these are just random acts of mishaps and if your love for the hobby is great and it keeps you learning then forge forth! How old is the tank? any chance of it being possibly defective when you bought it and maybe getting a new one or money back? If you think it was cracked when you bought it I would be bringing it back to the LFS and see if they will replace it atleast. Did anything DIE?

yea it does flat out suck.....no casualties yet....the only thing i think is going to suffer big time is my parameters because of all that dang aptasia i have odds are some of its going to die and same thing goes for my lsb. there are probibly going to be some loss in my sand as far as worms and such. i had the tank for about a year now and i dont think it was defective i just think there may have been too much weight for too long....i dont know though maybe it was defective i never saw any cracks from the time i bought it and.....my lfs......are extremely against giving any type of refund/exchange....i once brought in a thermometer i had for like a week....and the lady refused to let me exchange it w/out a receipt and she was the person that sold it to me only a week before....which is why i travel an hour to get anything other than emergency type stuff......all day i've been thinking acrylic is probibly the way to go but......a) probly cant afford it.....b) really doubt my lfs sells them. so..........on w/ the spending of my money! if another tank cracks i dont know what i'm gonna do because im on like 3 hrs of sleep now and im not too pleasant right now as you could probibly guess. what a month.

ok i had to settle w/ a 20gallon High tank because the lfs didnt have a 20 long. i like the way it looks but i'd rather have a bigger foot print personally but....oh well. i have got the sand, rock and whats left of the majority of the water in the tank and now that i look at the tank i'd say i lost close to 7 gallons of water on my floor.....oooh i forgot the best part my tank....it sits on my dresser.....therefore i have no clean: shirts, socks, unmentionables, pants,or shorts! wahooo! camp nudity here i come! so in between mopping water off my carpet, going to the lfs, mixing new water, re-aquascaping the tank, and washing my clothes, talked to my lady friend
and attempting to ascertain what losses i have had in this venture i am keeping myself busy today let me tell you! honestly.....this is the most fun i've had in a while isnt that sick! if i could have not had to spend the 42 dollars for a new tank.......and had to clean all my clothes.....i probibly wouldnt mind doing this again.....i got 2 words for myself and people like me......" Seek Help!"have a good day folks Jon |

I have more fun fighting with my tanks soving problems than just watching it all the time. I am constanly seting up new tnaks and selling old one. Mater of fact I have a new 60 gal coming in tommorrow for a FOWLR that will turn into a sump early next year for my 200 unless I like the 60 to much and get a new sump made. I think the 60 is like my 6th or 7th tank in the last 1.5 years. Im on my 4th reef tank and this will be my 4th swim tank I think.
Any way keep on fighting FIshguy_8 there is always tommorrow with something to fix, cure or replace. |

the xenia looks to be recovering OK nothing spectacular but i dont know if thats a blessing or a curse hahahaha jk i love xenia. my shrimp and other tank inhabs are in the little 2 gal. aquarium still i think i may leave them in there over night so that i can make sure i have the majority of the problems nipped in the bud. i have another gallon of water in the mixing tub which is one reason why im waiting i already put in 2 gallons of water that only mixed for about 3 hrs. so i dont really want to change the salinity too much today. i need alot more water than i thought i wish i had more but i dont my mother is away in france and i had her hook me up w/ 4 gallons of r/o water so i wouldnt have to run to town, she was going to town the day before she left i usually get it myself im not that lazy
give me some credit here, i figured that'd be enough top off water for the period of her trip at least......i hate having to go into this town its such a pit thats why im telling you this i try and get as much water as i can at one time so i have to frequent the town as little as possible i'm sure we all have towns like this. the only downside about the 20high is that.....i really liked the way i had my rockwork in the 20long. it was really nice you guys will have to take my word for it i took a few pics of it but i dont know if they will come out i will get a glare from the glass from time to time we will see. either way the 20high's rockwork is nice but.....i still liked the other too i'll keep ya all posted on what happens.Jon |
