Anemone, what should I get?
Hello again,
I have two Ocellaris Clowns and one is bigger than the other. From what I've read the bigger one is female. I don't have any Anemones for them to host and lay eggs. I'd like to get one that they'll host (HOPEFULY). I have a 65gal. reef tank w/ 1ea. 150watt 10K MH and 2ea PQ 65watt dual actinics. with some SPS Corals and Frogspawn. They don't even come close to the Frogspawn. So I'd like some suggestions what I should get. I'd perfer one that wont grow too big. Jed, |

Re: Anemone, what should I get?
If you are determined to get an anemone, I would recommend an Entacmaea quadricolor (BTA). It's not a natural host for Amphiprion ocellaris but it is usually accepted as a surrogate host in captivity.
The only natural hosts for this species all get too big for your size aquarium and they're all more difficult to care for than an E-quad. The only natural hosts are: Heteractis magnifica; Stichodactyla gigantea; S. mertensii. P.S. -- Your lighting is better suited to an E-quad, too. The other three all require stronger lighting than what you have right now. P.P.S. -- The maximum size for the three natural hosts: Magnifica 40" dia; gigantea 20" dia; mertensii 20"-32" dia.

Suggested reading: Be a Host to Your Anemone by Dr. Ron Shimek.
