    These snails

I have hundreds of these snails in my tank and they come in many sizes. they are populating like crazy. I am worried they are taking my tank over. Should I be worried and if so how do I get rid of them?. Please help. Thanks in advance.

Stomatella varia is considered a beneficial grazer. You could get rid of some of them by just letting it be known that you are willing to give them away. I'm sure anyone who lives close enough to you to drive over would love to help you get rid of some.

    Re: These snails

Well, I really hope these are the right type of snails that are in the pic....I got the pic off the internet and it is as close to the same ones that are in my tank. There are just so many. Do you know of any other types that they could be?...I really cant get a good enough picture. Seems like my digital camera takes blurry pics....How do people get such good pics of their tanks?...

    Thanks for the help again

It would help if you could take a picture of one of them crawling on the front glass of the tank. In other words, take a picture showing the underneath view. They are very distinctive from that angle. Maybe because that's the only ones I could see clear enough.

These snails are called cap snails because their shell is relatively small. Their foot extends quite a bit beyond the shell when they are crawling around.

They reproduce readily in most reef tanks; however, they can be out-competed for food by Collonista snails. Once you get those in your tank, they will virtually take over. At one time I think I had at least 800 of them in my 120-gal tank. Most of my other snails died off, except for a few Trochus, because the little Collonista snails ate all the available food.
