Nano Lighting

Hello all! I finally have my five gallon stable and am now looking into livestock options. Originally, I had planned to upgrade the current 10 watt 6500k bulb to a 25 wattt, 10000k even though the label in the hood said not to run anything greater than 15 watts. So in the interest of staying safe, I've decided to run three Rio 10 LED 10000k Fixtures instead. In learning about the product, i've found that they each put out the equivalent to a twenty watt Flourecent at the consumption of ten watts each. Given that- is my intended lighting sufficient for a T. Crocea, some Montipora, Acropora and other SS corals? the lights will be set about three inches from the water and the tank is about 1 foot deep. Thanks for the info!

Re: Nano Lighting

I don't know if it will be enough light or not. The best thing to do would be to try a hardy M. Digitata and see if it stays colored up and grows. I would definitely stay away from the clam.

Re: Nano Lighting

Thanks for the info- thats a great thing about this site- there's an almost certain chance of at least one reply- nice people. Anyway, I'm sure it'll be enough for Montipora, in fact i'm sure of it. Thus far, i've been going on the example of my last aquarium- a 24 gallon JBJ Nano-cube. It's stock lights were enough for acropora- two 36 watt 1000k PCs over a 16 inch deep aqarium. That works out to only 3 watts/gallon. So I have pretty good faith in the equivalent to 60 watts over a 12 inch deep tank for some acropora and montipora. As for the clam- i'm not so sure- I've lusted after a clam for years ever since seeing an absolutely gorgeous T. Derasa at the public aquarium. But if my lights aren't up tho the task, I couldn't let such a thing die. I think I might experiment. The thing I hate is that there are so many conflicting views on clam care that I can't figure out the truth. Again, thanks for the info. Peace.
