I think ultimately, reguardless of the substrate used, the bacteria will grow and do their thing. The only differences between the two are thier chemical properties- already discussed- and their visual appeal. White aragonite looks a little more natural and is much more common, but black would definetly provide more highlights to your corals and fish and might make for a more dramatic display. Your sandbed is fine Nano.(if a bit different looking from most tanks)
