How to bring coral without water

Soon I will be going holiday, so I plan to buy some coral to bring back,
It is possible to bring the coral without any saltwater, I mean the coral will be wrap with wet tissue (the tissue will be soaked with saltwater). I plan this because new regulation don’t aloud to bring liquid into a plane, so much more safe to bring those coral with wet tissue and put in airtight plastic container.

One of the coral that in my plan is zoanthid, and I want to know what other coral it is safe with this method.

    Thank you.

First of all you need to find out if you can transport corals from one country to another without special permits. I believe most hard corals are CITES listed. However, to answer your question, I don't think it's possible to transport live corals out of seawater.

I wouldnt try this at all, i'd take a stab at saying 100% failure rate.

Yeah- it's a sure bet that anything you take would die. In some aeas of the world, the tops of the reefs are exposed at low tide, but only for a few hours at the most. Sure-fire failure.

Why not box them up w/water and Fed Ex them overnight to someone back home to put them in your tank. Or, send them overnight to yourself the day you are leaving and take care of the corals yourself the next day.

Re: How to bring coral without water

Actually, lots of corals are exposed at low tide and because of that produce heavy coat of mucous that protect them from drying out.
So, having said that, I think it is possible to transport some of the corals wrapped in the wet tissue paper/paper towel. It all depends how long the flight is, actually.
More important issue is the regulation of export of the corals like Ninong said already. That would be bigger issue than actually transporting corals. You may end up in jail or simply loose your corals at the check point if there are regulation in place prohibiting export of corals.
    Kind regards,

    Gene.

Re: How to bring coral without water

Zoas do find transported in only wet tissue. Even some coral sites online are doing it now with them.

I have also seen people trading them from one club to another by this method as it is cheaper to ship since you do not have to do it over night.
