My finger leather hasn't opened up for a couple days now and I'm starting to get concerned. All parameters are in good shape. He has really been growing lately too, so I am stumped. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks

This is normal process for all leather corals. Just sheding to remove toxins and other materials.
It should be fine within a few days... ------------------ Mike jerseyreef@home.com |

I will second Jerseyreef. My toadstool umbrella leather closed up for about 4 days. After that, you can usually see a film that the shed floating in the water. Underneath, the polyps are just waiting to come out!! I think yours will be fine, but just keep a look out for it.

Sorry for butting in. I read in Dr. Axelrod's book "Corals for the mini-reef aquarium" that the outer covering shed regularly by Sarcophytons, Leathers, Xenia, Anthelia and others contain terpenoids which are toxic to fish and corals. He goes on to say that the thin sheets that are shed usually kill whatever they land on. Does anyone know anything about this? I'm getting ready to place an order, but I'm a little nervous. Thanks
