Recycle?

So I'm building up mountains of spare stuff laying around. I have saved all of my cartridges from my ro/di units and have about 50 different sediment and carbon filters laying around. I have all of my used up carbon and ferric oxide in 5g buckets. I have probably 600lbs of old sand from other systems in buckets as well. This is not play sand.

I am a packrat and hate to throw anything away.
Are there any uses for this old stuff besides filling in holes in the yard?

For the carbon I've read that it can be reactivated. Has anyone had any experience with this procedure? Would it be worth it?
Recycling activated carbon.

It seems like old CaCO3 sand could be cleaned, shaken down and reused as well somehow.

Thoughts?

Re: Recycle?

I've heard of others on the MARSH board recycling their carbon. I never have as it is so cheap to buy in bulk.

The sand can definitely be used again after a good rinsing. You could most likely sell it to a local reefer as people are always looking to buy sand.

Re: Recycle?

I agree with Mark. You can definitely reuse calcareous sand as there is no place to buy it anymore. It can be washed, dried and then reseeded and used. Ferric oxide I'm not sure about. Since you have thriving aquarium maintenance business you can look into buying resins in bulk to refill your RO cartridges and perhaps offer them to your clients? Just a thought.

Re: Recycle?

Have to agree with everybody about the sand. On the resins, I bought in bulk from the Filter Guys and have been living on that since last summer. Definitely a good way to keep your clients supplied also.
