I picked up the Wavemaker with the Koralia fours yesterday. Paid about $450 for the entire setup.

Well I am still playing around with the settings and the angles of the pumps but so far I love this setup.

I think I will look into the photo-electric cell for the automatic night mode. If I manually set it, I would most likely forget about it in the morning to reset it back to normal.

Only thing I see that I would want different would be the tidal setting. It can only be set in the Synchronous Mode. It would be nice if it could also function while the PH's are in the Alternate Flow Mode.

Right now I have it set in the Alternate Flow Mode with Minimum set about halfway and Maximum set at full speed.

Very nice. I got to play with a setup like this last week. I've been using these powerheads for a little while and really like them. I will say that you may want to put the guard on the front of each powerhead if they came with them. I had a turbo snail get into one and it broke the prop.

How are the pumps behaving? Do you hear any noises(rattling and such) when they restarting?

I have my Korallia's on full time as I didn;t even know they had wave maker for those pumps. Talk about falling behind... :eek3:

They never power off completely. the wavemaker only powers them down to like 15%.

So they stay just as quiet as if they were running continually.

Bad thing for you is, if you go with the wavemaker, you will have to buy new powerheads. If you look at the connectors on the box, they are not standard plug in ones. The plugs on the controllable Koralia is the same as the headlamp plugs found on vehicles.....9006/9007.

They are coming out with a wavemaker later this year that controls uo to 4 powerheads.

You have only 2 koralias on a controller?
What size koralias?

Doesnt matter , even if they are K-4's hooked on a controller isnt proper. Besides the articales that state that koralias are not reccomended on controllers , you want a good constant water flow in there and 2 koralias on a controller wont do it. Wave makers are more for effect and looks if you dont understand them.
Your setup means low oxygen saturation and fish waste and unetin food and other debris will have time to collect , and after time , months or yrs depending on setup , that normal water changes wont cure.

In a 125 i would use 3 K3,s for main tanks water flow needs and then if you want the wave maker get 2 more K3's.

You could sue a controller but you want much more flow and from better powerheads.

Im sure as usuall you will think your flow is fine and i understand because i see it many times a day , lack of flow needs , and all i ask is that whene you have trouble like dieing fish or poor coral growth or nitrate and phosphate readings that normal water changes dont cure then please , Remember this thread and reconsider your flow needs before you change to much water or buy some scrubber that wont fix the problem.
Flow issues take time to appear. Its as you add stock and your feeding habits and type of stock that matter. So the fact it takes awile many never think it was from there flow.
Example , you have low flow and 2 fish that look fine and eat well. You add 1 more fish then all of a sudden all your fish look weak and you dont know why. Well with low flow you have low oxygen saturation in the water and the added fish took more oxygen then was avialible. Well all fish suffer and if not fixed fast they all die.

Then on the list of most important its,
Quality water source.
Proper water circulation.
Lighting.
Amount of LR and LS.
Patiants.

I had 2 Seio 1500's on the tank for about 2 years. Then I went with the k4's a few days ago.

I know to keep an eye on the flow and if need be I will add one of the Seio's back in. Problem is my rock work goes right down the middle as the tank is viewed from both sides. So having the room for more than two Ph's is a challenge.

My SPS's have always grown like weeds in my system with just the two 1500's. I've had fish for years without them dieing, plenty of inverts and such also.

Believe me, with my setup, oxygen has never been a problem.

Lance I'm going to step in here and point out that you may want to read a little more thoroughly at the posts that you reply to.

He is using the model 4 powerheads and they are manufactured to be used on this controller hence the special connectors. He never mentioned any other pumps but I'd be willing to bet that he has other methods in place to provide water movement like a return pump etc. He may need more at some point but without knowing for sure what he's running who are you to comment on the setup? Have you had any personal experience with these powerheads or controllers?

Before you comment on the quality of the equipment and make other suggestions you may want to stick around here and learn a few things. It is obvious that you are fairly new to all of this and that is ok. You don't have to pretend to be a reef genius to be accepted here.

No i only asked if they were K2's then i added information that turned out to be mute to his repy. Its good info but not in this case.

Im very interested in the part about they only powerdown to i think 15 %. So you mean they dont stop completley? With k4's on this setup it sounds impressive.

Yes, they are pointing at each other from across the tank. Actually one points down one side of the reef and one points down the other side.

Koralias do not power off completely, they are only designed to power down, then back up to full speed. This keeps them from starting up backwards, breaking shafts and making clunking noises when they power up from a dead stop.

The Seio powerheads are the same way. That is why these type of powerheads need special wavemakers. A standard Red Sea wavemaker will work for them, but they always eventually break due to putting them it.

All my rock work goes down the center of my tank as it is viewable from both sides. So the placement of powerheads and getting the right flow pattern has always been a challenge.

With the Seios, they were big and bulky and placement of them was awkward. These K4's are more streamlined and easier to move around and place in other spots. Though I am limited to either end of tank.

Either way, the tank has never suffered from lack of flow and my SPS's are growing out like mad.
