Gigas Clam

Well after five years and plenty of growth, my Gigas is giving it up.

I got this clam when it was the size of my fist. It grew to the size of a nerf football.

A few days ago it started to show signs of receding. All params are great and the two other clams are fine. The shrimp started to clean away the dead tissue along the shell as it receded.

I'll watch it throughout the day for when it dies so I can get it out. Though it is so big, it might not fit past my lights.

Re: Gigas Clam

Poor Gigas Clam fell into the garbage disposal today. It was a horrible incident.

Measure about 11 inches

Pulled it out of the shell to examine for parasites

Bottom

Shell was also free of parasites

No bad snails on it either

The hole it left behind

Filled it with the other two clams and plate coral

Shell now resides in sump

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him how to fish and you get rid of him all weekend.

Re: Gigas Clam

Most likely cause of death was lack of nutrition if you have other smaller clams that are doing well. With good nutrition a T. gigas will be 18-20 inches in 5 years.

Regards,
Kevin
