All I can say is "Wow!" Louise. Those are really great shots. Thanks for sharing. Can you put the names of the corals when you post more pictures (soon I hope) for us newbies?

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day. Teach him how to fish and you get rid of him all weekend.
Hey Charlie,
No it is not an Acanthastrea, your second guess is much closer and it may very well be some species of Echinophyllia.I have a blue/green variety in my tank that started out as a 50c piece and now took over an entire piece of rock it was attached to. Either way, it looks to be a member of the of Pectiniidae family.
Louise, be mindful that this corals produce some serious sweepers, so keep your other prized corals away from it. ;)
Kind regards,
Gene.

Yeah Gene, if you noticed, my next post said it was a really bad guess. Do the echinos produce sweepers even if the flow isn't to much. I guess what I am trying to say is, alot of LPS will produce longer sweepers if they have flow directed right at them. Does that make sense?

Charlie,
In my experience there are few things that set them off, and proximity of other corals I think is more important than the water flow. I know that mine burned a good section of the stag acropora that was near it, however it make no reaction to the Elegance coral and never produced those sweepers we are talking about. As far as water flow it had no direct flow on it at any time, instead it gets residual flow coming from the return pump and my 4 power heads.
I think good rule of thumb would be to give these corals at least 4-5 inches of clearance.![]()
Kind regards,
Gene.

You said you have an echino, is there a pic of it in your tank that would be available to look at, in your other thread? I am really interested in maybe getting one of these corals, as I believe I have a good spot for it.

I believe there is, Charlie. If not, check my gallery, I am sure there are few pix of it in there. ;)
By the way, Louise, I apologize for not posting my compliments on your images. They look really nice.![]()
Kind regards,
Gene.
