Re: cleaner clam
I assume you mean the ones that bury in the sand with just their flukes sticking out?
If so, you would have to see if the fluke is still sticking out basically. Or else dig it out and see if the shell is still closed up tight. You could also lay it on the sand and it should bury itself in about a minute or so. |

Re: cleaner clam
Any pictures of those? I've never seen one.
Do they have another name besides cleaner clams?

Re: cleaner clam
CLICKITY
Go down about 3/4 of the way. They show two sizes. They will bury into the sand and you will only see the siphons and sometimes part of the shell sticking out of the sand. I have had them in my system for years, but a few years ago when I changed sandbeds they did not make it. |

Re: cleaner clam
Hmmm, another goofy thought, if these clams that you get at the grocery store are still alive, couldn't you just pop it in a tank?

Re: cleaner clam
well, my tank was leaking, and i had 2 of them. one of them i found, and the other i didn't for a few days until i took the sand out. the sand was moist, but no water for 2-3 days. The clam is sealed tightly shut, so i have it in water with my rock in big buckets until my new tank comes in. So I wasn't sure if it was alive or not, although it is tightly closed.
