I got 45lbs of lr(Vanisi) from Jeff's on Thursday. It's in a 30 gallon tank curing with a Berlin skimmer, heater and 50/50 actinic lights. I checked my ammonia on Friday and it was way off the charts. Now all my colors on my lr are all white, the sponges everything. Did I just waste all this live rock??? If I did, I won't be buying any uncured lr again!

I disagree totally Clown-t
Why in gods green earth would you not do a water change? Almost ALL of the bacteria that you are trying to get are not in the water, they are attached to the rock, sand or tank. By not doing water changes you are killing many of the sensitive inverts that come on your liverock. Buba |

Does this white coating need to be scrubbed off? Or does is just disappear after a few days/weeks and the original colors come back?

Did you ever take a reading on a rock tank at a local fish store. Don't worry it will come back. Just keep skimming and do water changes, Not alot and not many.

No, you didn't waste the rock... the NH3 is going up as a result of die off on the rock. Natural.
Do some water changes and monitor the results. You shouldn't expect to keep everything on the rocks, but hopefully some neat stuff will survive. I am still finding new stuff on my Jeff's rock 6 months after I stuck it in the tank. Keep your fingers crossed! |
