Martin's (Vtec si) new 150 display

Hello, My name is Martin and I am a Reef-a-holic!

Any way, some of you here know me and some don't, so let me tell you a little about me first. I am 35 years old and have been keeping Saltwater fish since 1992 and reef tanks since 2000. I am married so I do have a Boss. I also have a 4 year old beautiful little girl that is my little rock star! I like camping, fishing, race cars (anything cars) and diving. I live in Brighton, CO 20 miles north of Denver (GO BRONCOS!) and I sell lumber and construction supplies! Enough about me let get to the new project!

Two years ago I built a 300 gallon system (240 gallon cube and 65 gallon sump). I love the tank but the boss hated how much room it took up being 4'x4' foot print. A year later things are growing and doing well, UNTIL, we went on vaction and I left the tank in care of a family member who is also a reefer. However LOOOOONG story short. He got in a fix two days into the two week long vacation. (if you know what I mean) and the tank crashed! Not getting into that now. It took me almost a year to get the tank healthy and stable again! Then a month ago we lost power for about 45 minuts or so in the night and one of the antisiphon unions stuck open (REMEMBER TO CLEAN THESE!) and we had at least 100+ gallons of water on the floor! I put the tank up for sale and took it down that day!

240 shortly after it was set up.

    The week befor the crash.

So now that the basment tv room is once again torn up and a mess we have a new tank build. This tank is a 5'x2'x2'6" tall 150 gallon display tank that is made with 1" thick acrylic and 3/4" top and bottom with external over flow. I did not want any bowing or any room being taken up by a over flow. The top is also euro braced so I have full access to the tank with no center bace getting in the way. I will be using the 65 gallon sump anp a 25gallon refugium. Here are a few pic's with more to come later today.

    My sump

This is was my grow out system I took down 6 months ago. I will use one of these for my refugium. I think?

Well I did get all my old stuff cleaned up and the tank is almost finished being plumbed. I only have to plumb the return pump. I got the closed loop done and the drains. I tried to get the return pump finished but out of the 10,000 pcs of plumbing parts I have, you would think I would have a 1 1/2" elbow. Oh well I guess its off to home on depot! in the morn' I do have pic that I will put on tomorrow.

Oh heck, you probably wanted to go to Home Depot anyways.

Martin, with your experience, things will go just fine!!
