Re: My 800Gallon Plywood Reef

Ok, your tank is awesome, but how do you plan on doing maintaience on the bottom with a tank that tall and it only being like 2 feet deep..........before you put in rock, just curious, but once again awesome tank, I am sure you have already thought all these things out.

Re: My 800Gallon Plywood Reef

When I am adding the rock I will get in the tank. There is plenty of room for me in there. Once there is water in the tank, if I have to get to the bottom I will get a wetsuit and get in.

Re: My 800Gallon Plywood Reef

How far from a powerhead and overflow would you recommend a closed loop intake be.
I am not sure how far to put two from the overflow that will also have two Tunze Streams near it.

Re: My 800Gallon Plywood Reef

Today I completed the Tunze Streams Mounting Area. I have it angled down so the Streams should hit the middle of the tank on the other side. I also cut the overflow hole.
It is about 15" X1.5", should it be bigger, on the other side with be the overflow box with two 1.5" bulkheads

Re: My 800Gallon Plywood Reef

Update: I have done a little fiberglass work and so far it is going well. I have not had alot if time to work on it but am hoping to finish the first layer over the weekend, then the second should go faster.
So far it has not been a hard process, it is just taking alot of time per area.

Ok I have 1.5 Coats of blue epoxy paint on, I must say I love the color, I am going to finish up the other coats tomorrow. One thing I do not like is you can see the fiberglass.

Re: My 800Gallon Plywood Reef

The sheets of fiberglass are the horizontal lines that can be seen in the pictures? I agree they are a distraction, but I think they will be a non issue once the coraline takes over the back wall.

Re: My 800Gallon Plywood Reef

Poseidon: yeah they are, I have more paint on them now and it seems to be better. I wish I would have used on sheet over the back but did not even thick about it until it was to late.

I have the top and overflow box to cover one more time then the rest of the can is going on the bottom of the tank. Then it will sit for a week to dry.

Here is the sump: 24.5L x 22w x21H

I will be adding some baffles to the sump in the next few days and then sealing it with the Blue Epoxy paint. I have a 1.25" bulkhead for the return pump to connect to.
Next will be the cabinet that goes over the sump.

Re: My 800Gallon Plywood Reef

Sump has been painted and the tank is also finish being painted. 72 hours for full cure.
I hope to install the panel this weekend if I can figure out how to do it.
Once the panel is in I will wait 2-3 weeks and then water test it for 3-4 weeks then more it in

Re: My 800Gallon Plywood Reef

Very cool! What is going to hold the panel in? Did you use silicone around the edge?

Re: My 800Gallon Plywood Reef

Water pressure will hold it in. I will use temp bracing until I move it in the house.

I have silicone on the front side between the panel and the tank. I am going to silicone the ends of the panel today and try to finish up the silcone. So it will end up having silicone on 2 side all around with the bottom being covered by 3 sides.

Re: My 800Gallon Plywood Reef

I really can't wait to see this tank get finished!!!! How much did that front panel weigh????

On a side note, I was cruising thru your website, and I noticed you had an Emperor angel. How long did yours take to change from a juv. to an adult?

Re: My 800Gallon Plywood Reef

Weight is unknown, wish I new. I am going to send off an email to see if I can find out.

This current Emperor took 6-8 months. My last Emperor took about 1.5 years to change.

Re: My 800Gallon Plywood Reef

I finished off the silicone tubes I had and I guess 35 was not enough. I am going to order 24 more to finish this job so I can get the tank filled with water!!!

Mine is related to your last one, it has been at least a year so far, at least it seems that way.
